Sounds like there’s a solution to our problems here people…
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:
Millionaire Tax That Inspired Mamdani Fuels $5.7 Billion Haul in Massachusetts
A millionaire levy in Massachusetts that New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani holds up as a model for taxing the rich has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing...

Where are #ChildRights in climate plans globally? Children and young people have the most to lose if we don't take bold action at #COP30. Thanks @unicef.org for speaking out! www.unicef.org/take-action/...
UNICEF at COP29: Making children part of the conversation
Almost 1 billion children are living under extremely high risk of climate change. Children are raising their voices on the climate crisis. Are we listening?

Thankfully noticed that the car wasn't going to yield as it was supposed to and avoided being hit while leaving the cancer hospital.
As much as I think about how ironic it would be to be hit by a car going to/from cancer treatment I'm just not that committed to the bit.

Bikeways should be safe enough for a middle schooler to ride home alone… and a toddler on a balance bike to stop and ride their bike through a pile of leaves.

If we can't peacefully protest, do we have a democracy?
Want to know something truly haunting? Being deported for nonviolent climate activism. That's what happened to 24-year-old Zain Haq in January.

This is unjust and unacceptable.

If you’re not already angry about what the car companies have taken from us, this episode should do it.
NEW EPISODE: "The Creation of America's Car Culture." Producer Ilana Strauss talks to @norton.bsky.social about the two men who, in the 1920s, teamed up to sell more cars and shape the way cities handle traffic. Their legacy can be felt across the country today. podcasts.apple.com/lu/podcast/t...

This so much!

Parents (usually mothers) in car-centric areas are forced to chauffeur their kids around. It also means they emphasize predictable, scheduled activities (like sports leagues) that cost money.

Youth mobility gives kids freedom, saves money, and reduces the unpaid-labor burden on women
Just preaching my message of "wanting to do less more often" we all have our reasons.

Any #BikeHFX folks know a kid that could use a decent BMX bike?

WTAF @hfxgov.bsky.social?!

Don’t you have a warehouse somewhere for this stuff?!
No doubt someone thought this was a clever use of limited sheltered bike parking.
I’m old enough to remember when the project manager for Cogswell said they’d be “future proofing” bike stuff here. Instead, we ended up with racks too close together & only enough shelter if it doesn’t rain sideways.

As new vehicle prices continue to rise, and tariffs bring uncertainty, many Canadians are delaying or cancelling their plans to buy a personal vehicle. For some Canadians, the answer to their transportation struggles might be an ebike

With surveys suggesting Canadians are feeling the strain from vehicle ownership, many will be looking for an alternative. For many, the answer may lie beyond the car.

There’s so much to love in this #BikeBus post, but Patrick the starfish on a scooter is my favourite.
We invited Sam Westby, a local bikey instagrammer, along on our HONKoween #BikeBus parade, and he produced this nice reel that’s getting some exposure over there. www.instagram.com/reel/DQzVB2A...

My beloved thrift-store stainless steel sauté pan has reached the end of its life.

Does anyone have recommendations for favourite stainless steel cookware?

The current pan is 12"/30cm diameter, 3.5"/9cm deep, and more than 4.5qt/4L volume, and absolutely integral to many of weekly meals.

It was lovely to see so many #BikeHfx people tonight! I managed to chat with more folks than usual tonight but I still missed a bunch of you. Hi!!!

Sometimes when people ask me why I’m wearing a mask I say I’m traveling or have some important thing soon and can’t afford to get sick and miss it and that’s pretty much always true but I think it would be nice if it were more normalized to just say “I don’t want to get sick” and leave it at that
