The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

Automatic tax filing is so much easier for the taxpayer than the guessing game that is the self-assessment system.

For some reason the Canadian Taxpayers Federation is opposed to it.

Canada has just lost measles elimination status. The U.S. will undoubtedly follow shortly.

Elimination means that there is no continuous spreading of measles within the country for a year or longer.

Canada and the U.S. have blown it, and it’s largely the fault of the anti-vaccination movement.

This is not surprising. So much “economic reconciliation” funding is being funnelled to consultants with connections to the federal government and not to businesses with strong connections to Indigenous communities.
„More than 60% of roughly $1 billion in contracts annually intended to boost Indigenous entrepreneurs & their communities have stayed in Ottawa. Provinces with large Indigenous populations, incl Manitoba, B.C., Saskatchewan, Alberta, are largely shut out, according to IJF analysis of federal data.“
Indigenous contracting program funnels billions to Ottawa firms
The Investigative Journalism Foundation found that the federal Indigenous contracting program gave billions to Ottawa area firms.

The company. The people who made the decisions. All of them.

They got away with killing hundreds for the sake of a few cents per share of increased earnings. 🤬

For the sake of comparability, I'll go with the deficit-to-GDP ratio — the size of the deficit as compared to the size of the national economy.

By the measure, the projected deficit for 2025-2026 (2.5%) would be would be smaller than 2020-2021 (14.1), 2021-2022 (3.2) and 2009-2010 (3.1).

Out of budget lockup. I recently wrote: "Ottawa imposes a 10 percent luxury tax on yachts... yet a family buying a semi in Scarborough pays the equivalent of 15 percent in [DCs] and land transfer taxes."

Today the gov't addressed this by eliminating the luxury tax on yachts.

I think Sudan might shoot up the news agenda somewhat if two US Presidents and two British PMs e.g. announced we were sending the RSF more machine guns and missiles to kill more civilians, then told the press everyone protesting against it was a traitor extremist and sent the cops to arrest them.
