After 9NEWS questioned ICE's claim and its timeline, ICE deleted the claim from its social media platforms.

On February 18th you can go to city hall and tell them what you think of this and more. They should hear to their face, how harmful they are. Their duplicities should be called out. Defund the police.
The list of things council is considering cutting in order to keep taxes “flat” is insane. (From Sam Austin’s website). Call your councillor and tell them you won’t support them if they support these cuts.

Local folks are organizing to speak against these cuts. Contact @terriclarke.bsky.social or @npilon.bsky.social to join us on Slack. There are two opportunities left to speak (in-person or via Zoom): this Wednesday and March 4; and there’s always the option to email and call councillors.

It takes a lot of courage to write and share an obituary this honest, in the hopes it is of help to others. My heart goes out to Erica and everyone who knew her.

This is something the Nazis used to do to Jewish children in the camps. It happened to a man I knew when he was a child in Auschwitz. The camp guards thought it was funny as hell.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

Yes, but also a lot of city/provincial thinking around transportation is basically "the squeaky wheel gets the grease"

"Cars stuck in traffic? Just need to make it easier to drive" in a loop forever.

The end result is that we are broke and stuck in traffic.
Not saying I fully believe this, but if the PC government were actively trying to make Halifax traffic worse to achieve some kind of larger structural policy objective... it would make a hell of a lot more sense than whatever explanation we have right now on how these moves fit together logically.
