Band is the best
When I asked a group of middle-schoolers in Virginia last week what's one word they'd use to describe school—fun, exciting, mid, diverse, social—the most positive associations with school came from kids in band. That's not an accident.
As the parent of a 5th grader who last year described school as a "jail", I've never seen her more engaged and excited about school than after she brought home her baritone for the first time. She looks forward to band (2x/week) more than anything else, and constantly practices at home unprompted.

The left does indeed keep “organically recreating itself” (love this point) because the needs it’s trying to satisfy are actually the most basic. Food, for me and you. A home, for me and you. Protection, freedom, stability; all of the basics for all of us. Conservatives, meanwhile, are driven… 1/
IMHO, the big picture here is generations of chasing the fantasy of "responsible conservatism" while doing everything possible to undermine or destroy the possibility of a responsible left, which keeps organically recreating itself nonetheless. Just asking folks to keep their word makes one "left":
issue of israel aside, most dems cannot stand being questioned "from the left" as their programming is all aimed at politico journalists and david brooks. I'd add there's a new era of people not being trained to be deferential to politicians
