One of my biggest takeaways from living in Tokyo was that the city is incredible in spite of the fact that 95% of the architecture is unremarkable.

It makes the years-long design review process for a single apartment building in the U.S. seem all the more frivolous.
Tokyo is a city that makes the argument that architecture is irrelevant.

What matters more is urbanism:

The street network

The density

The freedom of uses

The clustering around rail

This week, we launched the redesigned Capital Program Dashboard!

With this dashboard, the public can see what is being built or replaced, where it is happening, what the budget is, how much has been spent, and when it will be completed.

The other day, I was telling friends and family how a housewife originated these Tokyo Metro transfer and exit guides, and they thought I was kidding. It used to be a well-known story. If you don't know it, here's a quick summary.

The amount of illegal parking in bus lanes and bus stops in Downtown Brooklyn on my walk to lunch is absurd.

But it’ll never get better when almost 100% of those doing it are NYPD or even MTA employees DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF NYCT HQ. Watch until the end for what a B54 bus does to get to its layover.

Wow, mismanagement of New York City - what a genuinely terrifying prospect! Siri who is the current mayor of New York City
mamdani's win has made the ny times, the washington post, fox news, trump, third way, and the democratic establishment very mad

Since Mamdani won the Dem NYC mayor nomination with a free bus proposal, let's talk about free transit.

Research suggests that free transit:
a—increases ridership
b—doesn't get people out of cars
c—benefits youth, elderly & low-income ppl
d—doesn't add employment
e—maybe ups operational efficiency

Via @nytimes.com: I’m proud to team up with @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social and cross-endorse each other for Mayor because of his strong commitment to a more affordable city.

Together, we'll fight for a safer, better-run New York — and ensure that Andrew Cuomo makes it nowhere near City Hall.

Last night, @bradlander.bsky.social and I exposed Andrew Cuomo's record of corruption, scandal and disgrace on the debate stage.

With early voting starting tomorrow, we're cross-endorsing to defeat the ex-Gov. and win a city everyone can afford. Rank Brad #2!

In the face of a relentless attack by the president & allies on the public sector, we need an opposition that can articulate support for the value of the civil service; the value of people who take jobs to help others, not to make a profit; the value of government initiative for public betterment.

It is not very difficult to learn true and useful things about the new congestion pricing toll system that New York City switched on last weekend, but it is much easier to learn untrue things about it...

Today was the perfect day for a visit to the Caro exhibit at @nyhistory.bsky.social. Thinking abt how TBTA (once run by Moses, now part of MTA) is now trying to undo the car-centric planning of its past, but is reckoning with distrust of govt transpo initiatives that is in part a legacy of Moses era

guess what happens when you work at the MTA!!!!!!!
I think one of the funniest social interactions is when someone asks you what kind of things you like, or what you do for work, and you respond earnestly, and they immediately tell you “Ew, I hate that”
