the magic of the Muppets is that there are two fourth walls. they constantly break the one that reminds the audience they are performers. they NEVER break the one that reminds the audience they are puppets. this dynamic is the key to their entire comedy style
MY KIDS: so why are there muppets in the AUDIENCE

ME: THE CONCEIT!! IS THAT THEY'RE PUTTING ON A VARIETY SHOW!!! IN A WORLD WHERE MUPPET AND HUMAN COEXIST!!! YOU ARE WATCHING A DOCUMENTARY!! FILMED!! IN REAL TIME!!!

Throughout the ICE raids, local and state police who answer to Democrat politicians have consistently done the dirty work to enable ICE to continue its campaign of ethnic cleansing.

Politicians who talk about "maintaining order" are complicit in this campaign of terror.

It's up to us. Just us.

one reason it would be pro-capitalism and pro-innovation and yadda yadda to institute a wealth tax so no one could be worth more than like $10b maximum is its very obvious that once these guys reach truly mind-melting levels of wealth they get lazy, decadent, druggy, and just generally washed-up.

Once you reach a certain threshold of wealth your brain breaks, you completely disassociate from reality. Wealth cap should be mandated as a mental health protection.

People like to act as if the concept of racism and the material consequences of racism are somehow nebulous and opaque but the empirical data has been around for decades.

Unfortunately, the only way to end ANY bad systemic practice is to weaponize it against the GOP, because Republicans simply do not believe in fairness, and will never oppose anything that advantages them. The sooner Democrats recognize this, the better.
on the balance i think partisan gerrymandering is bad but the only way it ends is if democrats weaponize it against republicans everywhere they can. wiping out republican lawmakers in blue states might bring the GOP to the table to end the practice.

fellas, is it Greek Tragedy when a powerful person experiences any amount of consequences for their bad behavior?
I do not totally follow what part of this story is a Greek tragedy. He liked Epstein. When people found out, they became angry. What is the Greek aspect of this?

reminded that hamish mcsubstack's 2023 explanation of why he takes nazi money is: "Given that, we don’t think that censorship (including through demonetising publications) makes the problem go away – in fact, it makes it worse.."

This is false. Like it's false false. Very false.

"Our results show that this approach minimized the impact of influencers and their ideas as well as modulated the offensive discourse of their many supporters."

Whatever you think of Bill Clinton overall, and granting that his heyday was in a very different era of politics, he was a cannier political operator than maybe any other living Democrat. Getting into a public rhetorical knife fight with him seems like a sucker's bet.

I’m not much for just putting on a movie to play in the background while I do other things. I know people who do that all the time. But I just got this used Blu-ray copy of Buckaroo Bonzai, and I threw it on while I clean. I swear, I’m not getting anything done. Such an amazing cast! So fun!

this docu explores all that. first interview subject is jonathan brockman (in epstein files), second is stewart brand (also in epstein files), etc.
