There's something almost spiritually cursed about how all the people closest to him instantly treated his death with completely unfeeling, dead-eyed cynicism. "When I said 'the wages of sin is death' THIS is what I really meant meant."

Yeah, as baby 2LT assistant battalion S2 in Bosnia I was doing something demented like 14-16 hours a day, 7 days a week, until I was given the S2 CPT [redacted]'s job because of [redacted] and was like "if I can't trust an E-5 and an E-7 to just do things sometimes it's all fucked anyway."
The only time I genuinely worked 12 hour days for months at a time was during deployment shift work and yeah that sucked.
