On #GISDay, we honor Dr. Gladys West, the genius mathematician whose 1970s–80s geodetic modeling of the Earth laid the foundation for GPS. Her work on SEASAT & GEOSAT gave us the precise geoid that makes every #geospatial app reliable today. #wow 😮 #WomenInSTEM

I was the only woman in the calculus series I took at the community college my senior yr in high school. The prof made horrible sexist jokes every class. Gross inexcusable jokes. My all-male classmates said absolutely nothing. The college did absolutely nothing.

Thank god he retired.
I don’t know why people are expressing surprise that no male journalist came to the aid of the female journalist.

In my experience men simply do not come to the aid of women in situations like this. They just don’t.

This is me. I don't believe in them, but some places are HAUNTED. The woods I tried camping in west Pennsylvania. I've never felt more unsettled in a place.
do you believe in ghosts or are you like me, a person who finds themself saying all the time “I absolutely don’t believe in ghosts, but this place has ghosts.”

Bellingcat’s contact email has always been a magnet for people with fairly unusual views; paranoid delusions, sprawling conspiracies, the works. But recently, the pattern has shifted, we’re seeing more and more emails clearly written with ChatGPT.

I rather like the friends Youngest has found this school year. They all like to bake for each other. Tonight, Youngest is making little meringues to take and share tomorrow.

I have SO MUCH to do right now, and it has me frozen, unable to even make a proper to-do list to tackle any of it.

I know this will pass, but man it's frustrating.

I should go for a walk. Maybe that'd help.

Friends,
I never ask people to retweet/reskeet something I've posted, but this is REALLY important to me and to a lot of dedicated, hardworking people who've been shit on over and over again for the last 10 months.
PLEASE reskeet this and PLEASE call your Senators and Representatives.
Thanks to the Epstein files, all of America knows what a Discharge Petition is.
Here's another one that's reached 218 signers-- the Protect America's Workforce Act, that would undo Trump's unlawful anti-union executive orders.
Call your Congresscritters to support it.

We wake to mornings of cold magic. Exhale dragon-breath, crunch frost-frozen leaves as we walk. The year is dying. We feel it as rush of ghosts, a shivering that foretells the blade of ice upon its neck. No wonder this is the season where folklore burns bright. – #DAKilroy, 1982 #Folklore

Currently reading. I'd love more recommendations of books about migration/immigration, both human and animal/plant around the world. If you know of any, let me know!

🧵 Bookstore trip w/Youngest today. Watching the store where I used to work evolve under new ownership is interesting. I love finding traces of previous coworkers on the shelves. A Staff Picks-stickered book from someone long gone. Titles the old owner used to handsell with ease, now forgotten. /1
