Small example: It's insane how pervasive anti-gay slurs were. The topic of discussion didn't even have to involve actual homosexuality or assumed-to-be-gay people. Anything someone didn't like was "gay" and anybody who was 1% outside proper male/female-ness was a [REDACTED] or [OTHER REDACTED].

My parents grew up in the 1960s, and I'm sure when they were raising me in the 1980s they weren't fully "woke" by 2025 standards. But somehow there is also a shortage of their kind of visceral, reflexive, down in the guts *contempt* for white supremacy across the (white) political spectrum.
