Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

A very old friend is a veteran activist (a WTO protest veteran!) and is not new to being tear gassed but said this was the worst exposure she’s ever had because the section they attacked was boxed in by the rest of the crowd. Many kids and elders in extreme distress. This is state terrorism.
I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

People are right to be incensed, but there are more names to uplift. ICE killed an immigrant man named Silverio Villegas González in Chicagoland. He had children. Victor Manuel Diaz was kidnapped in Minneapolis and died in ICE custody on January 14. Their names deserve to be repeated, too.

Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

The funniest shit is that I feel like the huge turnout downtown is almost because of the cold not in spite of it. The fact that it’s -10 degrees out led to just more defiance, like thousands out there saying, it isn’t even that bad out.

This is a global far right power grab, so the sooner everybody realizes that and puts aside their deeply outdated notions around national identity, which got us here to begin with, the better. If the US were a legit democracy I’d say yes- we should all carry the blame. However…we are not in any way a functioning democracy. Voting rights & access, the electoral college, citizens united… I could go on.
This man is talking about stealing a country at gunpoint from nations the US is allied with. Of course Europeans hate us. You would feel the same way if you were in their place. American voters put this man in power, he didn’t seize it this time.
