I was at a party and few years ago when this discussion came up. The only opponents of UBI in the room were the people who said they themselves would "abuse" it.
They assumed the rest of us are as lazy as they are so they'd prefer that nobody has it. It's nonsense.
"Not only don't people work less when they are guaranteed an income, they might actually put in more effort at work. And the fact that they have more money to spend leads to the creation of more jobs."

Who did this? If not the ESB, who? Even if the Blackpool flood scheme were in place these trees would likely be swept up against the new proposed trash screen in the Blackpool Retail Park. This area is also a ‘Landscape Preservation Zone’ NE3 #cork www.irishexaminer.com/news/munster...

Shannon, Ireland for RnR. It is hard work deporting people in chains, some to countries they have never set foot in. But it has its rewards.

Ireland's government is terrified to stop this trade.

We don't know what's happening, but there's no good news here. As long as we keep burning fossil fuels, the world will continue to become more dangerous and chaotic.
Scientists thought they understood global warming. Then the past three years happened.
The fastest warming period since 1880 occurred in the past 30 years, according to a Washington Post analysis of NASA data.

If you drive your diesel car 100 miles it will cost between £5 & £6 in fuel tax (For the UK. Similar for Ireland)

If you fly 1000 miles, it will cost about £0 in fuel tax.

That's how committed we are to fighting climate change.

Just so its clear: data centres are not "critical infrastructure".

They are Mystery Factories that can perform inscrutable computation for any digital output, from crypto scams to child abuse material to hospital databases. The broad label just becomes a wide door for harm to run through.

How do we get more people to understand how essential this is?
Nature and climate funding must now be articulated as infrastructure: as essential to food systems, public health, energy stability and geopolitical resilience. In security terms, biodiversity is not sentimental, it is strategic.

Environmental breakdown isn’t a distant possibility – it’s a threat to world stability
The message is clear: climate change should be prioritised as a security crisis, not just an environmental one

Where is our Occupied Territories Bill?
An investigation by a German outlet has found that in German supermarkets, wines from illegal settlements in the illegally occupied West Bank are labelled as "from Israel".

This violates both EU regulations and the International Court of Justice's advisory ruling on the occupation of the oPT.

And so it continues, the enslopification of truth!
While reporting this, I had something happen that's never happened. A comms rep for one of the co's disputed my reporting and said what I was telling them was untrue because it was not in Grok, xAI's chatbot.

I was looking directly at the files. And this person was using AI to challenge the truth.
Epstein had many known connections to Silicon Valley CEOs, but less known was how he made money from those relationships.

We did a deep dive into how he got dealflow in Silicon Valley, giving him shots to invest in Coinbase, Palantir, SpaceX and other companies.

Last year, 185 people were killed on our roads in Ireland. Just shy of 70% of these were motorists or their passengers.

In 2024, there were 77 recorded homicides. Half of these were victims of dangerous drivers.

We should all take from this fiasco to turn the focus onto who is doing the killing.

Whenever flooding hits, we hear in detail all about the wrecked homes, livelihoods, property, and related misery.

But NEVER the major cause: that Ireland has been totally stripped of the native ecosystems like forest & bogs that would naturally have absorbed the water.

This is on the money. Flooded fields around rivers are not really a problem, flooded towns are. The purpose of the Arterial Drainage Act was to try to prevent fields flooding, and to drain marginal land, but this pushed all the excess water down the rivers faster and into the towns.
We’re not serious about tackling flooding as long the arterial drainage scheme continues to be treated as untouchable. It was built for mid‑20th‑century land drainage, not 21st‑century climate change charged flooding. Its time to store flood water in flood plains not in towns.
