After everything I am coming to the conclusion the really important discourse is the popular culture one because having good (not necessarily interesting or unique) popular culture takes is the best proxy for good political takes.

"We’re done waiting for Dems to find their spine. We can’t afford a weak & cowardly Democratic Party while the authoritarians invade our cities, terrorize our communities, & threaten our democracy. We get the party we demand, & we intend to demand a Democratic Party that fights.” — @indivisible.org

There are 8 members of the caucus who are not "united" we all should be working to get the surrender monkeys back on board
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

Democrats didn't get played ... because they knew this was going to happen. They just gave up.

In the most predictable development ever, Mike Johnson is not committing to hold a House vote on ACA subsidies

Either way he shouldn't be the caucus leader and every senate democrats who is not trying to oust him - is also unfit to be a democratic senator
The thing about the "I voted against this" position Schumer is taking is that either he is trying to mislead Dem voters by implying he didn't support reopening right now, or he has no control over his caucus.

Maybe we can develop a system where the government inspects factories to make sure they are not poisoning babies with substandard products because they cut corners for profit.
Preliminary tests showed that ByHeart baby formula contained the type of bacteria that produces the toxin linked to a botulism outbreak, California health officials said. https://to.pbs.org/48chilR
Preliminary tests find germ that causes botulism in ByHeart baby formula
Consumers should stop using ByHeart powdered infant formula immediately.

What's interesting here is that Trump keeps calling it the Democrat Shutdown and the polling showed that people didn't believe it and blamed the Rs, BUT Chuck folding now and getting nothing makes it look like this all WAS a Dem shutdown for no reason at all. Trump wins again because of Schumer
In a new post, President Trump makes various threats and promises to air traffic controllers who have very, very difficult jobs and hold the safety of air travel in their hands.

EIGHT Senate Democrats have voted to advance the funding measure so far after the deal was reached:

Cortez Masto
Durbin
Fetterman
Hassan
Kaine
King
Rosen
Shaheen

If the existing 52 Republicans hold, that's 60 — enough to advance this agreement. Final vote still to come.

Me: Should I buy EU 5?

[Checks notes - I have 2667.2 hours in EU 4]

... thats a deeper question than I wanted to ask ... maybe the real question is ... am I going to buy it before the expansion and mods are out ... because I am probably buying it eventually.

Is it @erikloomis.bsky.social that writes all the LGM obits?
pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

I managed to convince boomers right wing aunt (in Brasil) that she needs to block people on social media who lie to her (especially about Mandani - she lives in Rio and was very worried about NYC municipal issues).

So I am calling this a win.

Is this why MTG is trying to pretend she is sane?
I can't tell if this is currently 1) unthinkable or 2) conventional wisdom but I kinda think Johnson is going to lose the Speakership when the House comes back in session

The result was “institutionalized hunger.”

One of the reasons that house republicans feel comfortable voting for insanely unpopular and unworkable policies ... is because they know it wont pass the senate. Ending the filibuster will make a few house republicans less likely vote for crazy things for fear it will pass.
you have to wonder what sort of legislation the House tries sending to the Senate if they kill the filibuster. do they finally get around to privatizing social security like during Bush?

As a former policy debater in high school and college and now an attorney... I reached the conclusion that the only way to win a debate is to have a better understanding of your own position and there is no value in debating someone to try to convince them.
Has anyone ever won a debate with a machine? It doesnt stop

Any sensible reading of the constitution would not put the onus on congress to stop a military action. The president cannot start a war unless congress preemptively says no. That's no how this is supposed to work.
US Senate fails to get enough votes to advance resolution to block Venezuela military action
