I can't make this shit up. I deal with IT, mostly SMB. I like whiskey. Fuck off if DevOps is your solution to everything.

I got free lunch as a kid. Our little tickets were different from everyone else so all the other kids knew you were poor. It was horrible and destroys your self-esteem. Giving all kids free lunch removes that kills lunch debt which my god, wtf?
helping kids eat and not be judged is a good thing.
Free lunch for every kid is now law in Minnesota, New Mexico, Colorado, Vermont, Michigan, and Massachusetts. It polls at about 99% and should be backed by any decent American.
School lunch debt is skyrocketing with the expiration of Covid-era subsidies. With it come humiliating debt-collection tactics served on children.

Note that even if you ordered test kits via USPS the last time around, you're still eligible to order 4 new (free) tests.

No reason for anyone not to have test kits handy.
Anyone with a US residential mailing address can again order 4 free COVID rapid tests via the USPS. It's really easy.

It now looks like, per another brilliant report by ProPublica, that our dear Justice Clarence Thomas also participated in Koch Network donor events. Is there no end to his corruption and influence peddling? Don’t answer that, I know the answer.

This is the tech industry now.

The judge in E. Jean Carroll’s second defamation case against Donald Trump just granted partial summary judgment in her favor. That means the trial is just about how much he damaged her. Trump just keeps winning, huh?

Part of why people get so excited for Halloween is because it's one of the few holidays that isn't centered around family. You can just go & do your own weird thing. Embrace your inner werewolf. Howl at the moon. Chase a squirrel. Pass out in your bath tub. No one will stop you.

No one can trace the etymology of "top" beyond Proto-Germanic *tuppaz

This is because Germanic tribes discovered topping when their spears thrust deep into the soft, unprotected rump of the Roman empire
Skuld was one of the Norns, the Norse deities ruling fate. It specifically was thought to represent debt, or what ought to be.

Its PIE root *skel- (guilt, obligation) also has a famous descendant in English: the regular old helper verb "should"
Tones in language like Chinese and Punjabi evolved when they lost their consonants but kept pitch changes.

Try saying 'van' and 'pan'. Notice how the 'a' in the first is lower pitched?

If the v and p were ever lost, people might accentuate the pitch difference. Over time these become full tones
