FWIW, I love Parks and Rec because is a love letter to the people who, like Leslie Nope, show up every day to do the deeply unsexy work of making society function because they believe that their small contributions make the world a better place. In sufficient numbers, that’s exactly what they do.

Charlotte's transport referendum has won.

1% sales tax increase is expected to generate $19 billion/20 years, funding:
—Transit (40%): Red Line commuter rail, Silver Line light rail, Gold Line extension, Blue Line extension
—Road projects (40%)
—Bus improvements, creating frequent bus network (20%)
Just with early vote reporting, Charlotte's transportation sales tax referendum is currently up 55–45%. But I caution this is just the early vote!

A practice I began keeping about 20 years ago has been a font of evergreen learning, and it's simple:

Every time I hear a person I respect use a term or technical phrase whose full meaning escapes me, I note it.

Every few months, I go thru that list, and track down straight-forward explanations.

Zohran Mamdani caught lying about having sailed in the same ship once owned by the legendary Theseus, yet when pressed he admitted that every part of the ship had been replaced at least once and therefore can one truly call it the same ship?
Zohran Mamdani caught lying that he understood Plato’s allegory of the cave, yet when asked to explain it, he seemed to instead explain Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation where reality has been replaced by symbols and signs, which seems similar to Plato’s theory but is not the same

The Mark Felt rule of anonymous government sources is that you should assume they have decided it serves their purposes for the truth to be known.

The corollary to that rule: being on the losing side of an internal struggle GREATLY reduces the fear and cost of kvetching to the press.
