Another example of the absurdity of our system of zoning and neighbourhood control is when NIMBYs can fight and block *daycares* in neighbourhoods.

A daycare within walking distance is the best thing ever.
Sophie Ngo and her husband spend three hours every day driving between Richmond and Vancouver just to drop off their two kids at different daycares. It is the only way they can find care. "I don’t know why it’s so hard," she says. She is right.

When countries get hooked on US tech, their governments are constrained in reining in tech’s harms while most of the economic benefits accrue to the United States.

It’s time to break out of that trap — but that means challenging the Silicon Valley model, not creating our own digital colonizers.

Canada is not immune to this epidemic level of death and injury. We will follow the US’s “lead” unless something is done.
Actual causes of the US road safety crisis:
🔹 Car bloat
🔹 Failure to enforce traffic laws
🔹 Fast urban roads
🔹 Suburbanization of poverty/jobs

Blaming smartphones is lazy thinking.
US Traffic Safety Is Getting Worse, While Other Countries Improve
The rising rate of road deaths in the US continues to defy global trends. Here’s what traffic planners in other nations could teach their American counterparts.

Very interesting to read about how the catastrophic water outages happened in Calgary.

It could happen to your city too. The current vancouver administration is expert at taking no decision and referring back for more study.

A golf course next to the Fraser River in northeast Metro Vancouver will be transformed into a public park with sport and playing fields.

It is part of the City of Maple Ridge's strategy to build a new major aquatic & community centre. #vanpoli #vanre

Every day, thousands of women and children are victimized by people on X using the Grok chatbot to generate scantily clad and naked photos of them.

It’s time for governments to take action. Elon Musk’s X should have been banned long ago. They don’t have an excuse to delay any longer.

With everything awful & scary going on in the United States & the world, we might momentarily forget that here in Canada, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre STILL REFUSES to apply for the normal security clearance that EVERYONE else in his position has.

It’s reasonable to assume he can’t pass it.

The FDNY's response to a five alarm fire in the Bronx was delayed by drivers who parked their cars in front of three fire hydrants closest to the blaze. Two firefighters and one civilian were injured.
