Still thinking about this part of the conversation, showing a poster by @tomflood.bsky.social next to two by Klaus Staeck that I remember from my childhood.
Lots of parallels between discussions in Germany (and other places in Europe) back then and Canada (and the US) 30 to 40 years later.

Tell city planners to legalize small lot apartments throughout Vancouver. Not in a few years when they might get around to looking at it, but now, as part of this process. Vancouver has only been falling further behind.

The problem from their point of view is that rapid decarbonization requires public, collective decisions about the organization of production, in a way that threaten capital-owners' authority over both the production process and the political system.

Kids aren’t urban planners, but neither are most adults and plenty of adults still get a lot of say in how people get around, often at the expense of anyone who doesn't use a car to travel.

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again—and expecting less traffic.”

“Organizing our entire transportation system around personal automobile ownership is an historical blip, one pushed on society by corporate interests and which does not represent societal norms consumer preferences.”

Expo line story I told to everyone tonight.

Canucks game tonight too, trains busy. At one stop a group of a dozen big lads - all taller and broader than me - piled on in jerseys.

All deaf. It was awesome. 1/3

Deep gratitude for the activists and political leaders advancing a Vision Zero agenda. Traffic violence is not inevitable. Stopping it is possible and necessary.
