Building on the #socialstair and Transit Oriented Area #bcpoli, what further policy interventions might help #newwest develop more like the single lot redevelopment image, and less like the Land Assembly image?

I heard from an Edmonton councillor that the YIMBY response had a meaningful impact!
Congrats to Edmonton for retaining the 8-unit limit on infill housing developments instead of reducing it to 6 units!

It’s the backtracking proposal that was covered in this video.

IMO The deferral system has not been destroyed, it has been re-calibrated to do what intended (allow pensioners to live in their homes protected from skyrocketing land values) while removing the obvious incentive for profit-seeking it became.
5. Goodbye property tax deferral

You know how seniors were allowed to delay paying property taxes on their home with super cheap interest rates?

The province has changed it so interest rates are prime plus two per cent and compound monthly, eliminating it as a de facto investment fund

Today is the first day of Ramadan, the first day of Adar, Lunar New Year and Mardi Gras.

This means that for one reason or another, the majority of humans on the planet have a reason to eat fried food, and that is beautiful.
Ramadan Mubarak!

*Simple interest* discount rate property tax deferral was the wildest deal you could get

But I worry that without it the pressure to otherwise wreck the property tax or assessment system will grow

On the one hand, this was a subsidy to wealthy land owners, and people who think their land has been overvalued by upzoning, can ask for it to be assessed down and pay less.

On the other, old landowners vote, and the province has just removed a rhetorical/fiscal shield from good municipalities.

The B.C. government is projecting a $13.3 billion deficit for the upcoming fiscal year, and announced a series of tax increases, job cuts and project delays.

Classicists say the jaunty triangular window corner is more likely to break down and worse to maintain. Is that true? If so is there a worthwhile trade off?
