Did you know that in 17 days, the nights will get shorter again in the northern hemi? If you're struggling right now, lean into cozy as much as you can and really enjoy it. I've got spicy teas, smelly candles, a fun sweater, and twinkly lights. Enjoying these weeks as much as the bright ones.

I've been a monthly donor to Out On Screen for a while now but it's always a good time to become a donor. Their program Out In Schools is unique and it works: outonscreen.com/out-in-schoo...

When munis don't charge an adequate amount of property tax to meet operational and future needs (reserves), the tax burden gets shifted. In this case, Ken Sim thinks the province should bear the burden.

Let's look at who pays those taxes for a moment...

Sim talking about making vancouver affordable and in the same breath championing FIFA with tix over $700 and the FREE fireworks canceled makes my head spin.

"Everyday Vancouverites" don't get a break on a 0% property tax. Landlords don't pass along savings (50% of residents are renters).

Landowners get a break. And it's not money back, just a future huge increase to make up for shortsightedness.
November 25, 2025 at 9:57 PM
When we hear 0% tax hike, it's a game and trying to shift the tax burden on another gov't (next elected or other level).

Then we're mad when the other gov't have to hike taxes to make up for the deficit in services and therefore expenses.

When the proposed budget is shitty.......
Possibly the first protest of its kind at City Hall this morning. A diaper change-in protesting budget cuts and fee increases to amenities for new parents, and many others. @womentcities.bsky.social

At UNBC today & at my 1st presentation, participants talked about the harm women experience in serving in local government. I heard about leaders who will not run because they don't want to be threatened. They don't want their children threatened.

These are suppression tactics. #BCPoli

Make council look future residents in the eye and tell them what they are doing for THEM.

Trust me, none of those babies are going to be thanking a council that creates a service deficit they will be negatively impacted by. #VanPoli

This isn't just a new West problem.

Want to take action?

1 - don't be part of the problem. Criticize issues, not people.
2 - show up for leaders after they get elected. Having to lead in a room full of people who behave like this is draining at the very least.
3 - let's vote in better people
In New West, the political rhetoric has gotten completely out of control, stoked by the New West Progressives. At our Monday council meeting, the two NWP members voted against me attending a conference about countering online harm and misinformation. Meanwhile, on their social media page, there is

55% of Vancouver are renters. a 0% tax increase would only benefit half the population.

Do we govern for half or govern for all? #VanPoli
My rent is going up regardless of property tax increases.
458: business council of B.C. supported zero per cent tax increase. 94% increase in property tax since 2010. Landlords pass this on to renters. Excess spending of 3.8 billion in last decade.

Let's talk about delegating to council since Vancouver has a marathon list of delegates about the 0% tax increase report from staff.

Let's start with this: elected bodies are entrusted to make decisions with a birds eye view of their jurisdiction. .../1
