Transit polls well. We use that popularity to push for more reliable and abundant transit. Let's make it better than driving.

My understanding is that Zurich has many road segments where traffic is metered to limit / eliminate congestion at all times (displacing the congestion to where there are transit lanes, and reducing congestion overall). Makes things better for everyone, including people driving cars.

Great session of outreach today ahead of the charge game at Lansdowne for bus lanes on Bank!

Lots of people taking the 6 and the 7 to come support this fantastic team! Imagine if they had a reliable and efficient way to get here without having to sit in traffic or try to find parking!

I love videos like these. I've also been dreaming up a metering system that would also clear up the delays that buses faces after that merge at the end of the video
The Lions Gate Bridge bus queue jump is beautiful and anxiety-inducing at the same time

Don't be fooled by this op-ed in @theglobeandmail.com. Choice isn't between a "$75-billion funding injection...for Canada’s urban transit systems" (not on the table) + high-speed rail.

It's between clean, fast, frequent trains serving half Canada's population and even more pipelines, LNG + mining.
Opinion: High-speed rail is hardly the highest priority for Canada
Given its massive price tag and the natural limits on nation-building energy, there are more urgent issues to which Canada should devote its resources

Congratulations on the second most expensive transit system in Canada after York Region Transit.
🚨 Fare changes are now in effect.

(2) is the biggest reason that monthly passes should be retired in favour of fare capping

passes offer a discount at a steep upfront cost. the people who are least likely to afford that upfront cost are those who need the transit discount the most

passes inherently disfavour low-income riders

1/
1) With fare capping there's the same incentive against evading a portion of your fares as there is with a monthly pass - you'd have to get away with evasion a lot of times for it to be worth it.

2) Fare capping makes the monthly discount accessible for people who can't drop $100 at once.

The thing is that the train station doesn’t need to be in the middle of nowhere. It could be, should be, a hub with plentiful, housing, business, etc., around it. But decades of inept planning, and road building has orphaned it. 1/

Was out by trim, rose the other day; haven’t been in a while. Look at this monstrosity. Absolutely insane. All of that surface parking and tens of millions of dollars spent to realign roads to make a park-and-ride. Zero housing, zero development, complete and utter farce of sustainability. 1/

You know that runner in Toronto that races streetcars? The City put in dedicated lanes on Bathurst, and he re-raced it

“This used to be the slowest route. Now it’s the closest race I’ve done. I never thought I’d say this. But I’m really surprised. There’s hope: for the streetcars and for the city.”

Things that seem impossible become possible before you realize it.

This is my takeaway from @volts.wtf podcast with Saul Griffiths about solar in Australia.

Power is free for 3h/day because they're generating so much solar. You can get panels installed and permitted in a week.
What's the real story with Australian rooftop solar?
Saul Griffith joins me to debunk the myths surrounding Australia's massive influx of solar energy.
