I am far from being alone using transit in the off peak. Lots of people with me on buses & trains as I navigate multiple modes to go to appointments on a day off mid-week, daytime. 🚉🚌🚏

Sometimes getting your arc card out is annoying, but you don't always have to do it. If placed right, tapping on through a wallet or glove works just as well, plus then you don't have to get your hands cold

The benefit of BRT is that it can be built quickly and affordably. We CANNOT let the city leave its bus rapid transit planning sitting for years, as riders stay stuck in traffic

Admin says parts of the system could be operational by 2031 if funded this budget cycle. let's get it done
So if I'm reading this report right, 10 years after passing the BRT plan we are now starting a three year planning process so that by 2028 we may start to impliment parts of BRT plan first approved by council in 2016.

Last week we got more info on what the new high-floor LRT vehicles will look like!

When these 32 new LRVs arrive, Edmonton will finally retire its Siemens U2 fleet, which have been in service since the system opened in the 70s!

I was once interviewed by Calgary radio and they seemed quite surprised to hear that the CTrain is the highest ridership LRT in US/Canada.
We really need to turn the page on stereotyping Alberta's two largest cities as just beacons of sprawl. Edmonton's housing innovation alone has it lapping other cities across the country, and from a broader North American viewpoint its transit ridership is clearly slept on.
We are of course massive CityNerd fans here at Edmonton Transit Riders, so wanted to share a clip in one of his most recent videos ranking North American Cities on per capita transit ridership!

Edmonton ranks number 8!

Imagine what we might see if we scaled service to match population growth. 🎉

Turns out running half-decent bus service that connects up with LRT gets you ahead of cities with magnitudes higher populations

We use bus routes every single day, but a lot of people don't know that there is a system behind the numbering of Edmonton's bus routes

Getting to Calgary Trail or Gateway sucks 👎

Awful transit service and inconsistent sidewalks mean that the thousands of workers and shoppers who come here daily are forced onto two traffic-clogged roads

That could all change with Edmonton's bus rapid transit plan

This is what we are seeing in Edmonton too!

Crosstown routes in the suburbs or along major roads have massively increased ridership in the past few years. Travel patterns change over time, grid networks with consistent frequencies are the best for flexibility.
Riding a 10 bus across SE Portland at 7:30 AM.

Before Covid, this bus would've gotten more crowded approaching downtown.

Now the load is constant with frequent turnover.

Demand for transit is still high but less centralized. Frequent bus grids excel at this.

Happy Email Your Councillor Day everybody!

On the last Monday of every month, we are challenging everyone to reach out to their city councillor and tell them what you want Edmonton to be.

This is a great way to bake civic involvement into your schedule (cc info@edmontontransitriders.org)

Very happy to see this amendment passed on International day of Persons with Disabilities
The dedicated accessible transit service will see a funding increase!

✅ Amendment by Salvador to increase DATS transit service PASSES 13-0

This will maintain the DATS accomodation rate at 98%, serving an additional 120,000 trips per year
