We don't have enough buses to meet our minimum transit service standards. If we want to meaningfully improve service so that riders aren't left standing out in the snow, or without a bus to their neighbourhood, it is important that we grow our fleet.
Edmonton doesn't have enough buses to provide consistent, reliable, and inclusive service, By 2026, Edmonton will need 99 new buses to keep up with population and ridership growth - Falling further behind means worse service and coverage for our bus system Our bus fleet is getting old, ballooning maintenance costs and decreasing reliability, Almost 300 buses are over the age of retirement. Failure to replace older buses has only made our position worse. We have the opportunity to fund the purchase of 25 new buses now, At City Council in April 2025, Mayor Knack proposed that the city purchase 25 new buses. This will be brought before council for approval at the end of November.
