I wonder whether the inflection point in 2025 around week 24 (looks more pronounced than other years) coincides with Fillmore’s anti-bike rhetoric? #bikehfx
2025 in red. Darker blues are more recent years (becoming lighter the further back in time you go).

The motion Purdy stupid put forward (and that passed) would be looking at cutting 1 million for this year on AAA network projects. Everything else is external funding. Out of $300 million capital budget. Thats from @davidwtrueman.bsky.social (hope I got that right)

Bike lanes are under attack again in the HRM budget meetings. Trish Purdy has successfully moved to look at deferring the 2026-2027 capital spend and signalled her intention to defer for future years as well. ../2

The costing report for the Region Centre AAA network is out and going to council on Tuesday. They are proposing three cost-saving measures for consideration:
1. Do Novalea as a bidirectional protected on-road cycleway rather than MUP (big improvement IMO)

An incredibly valuable analysis of the finances of the city of Halifax. Our historical land use planning dooms us. Property taxes are not only regressive but super-regressive shifting costs from higher income households disproportionately to lower income households. Bravo @kwilsonhfx.bsky.social !
Hey. Hi. Hello.

I’m stealing “you have to navigate a veritable gauntlet of cycling punishment” to describe the Halifax side of our bridge bike lane.
Also, screaming into a pillow as I contemplate what it’s like to have a mayor who cares and does stuff to make things better.
Zohran just went out and fixed the Williamsburg Bridge bike entrance. Just did it. No faffing, no nonsense. Bam. Fixed.

These are 24 titles we read this year that informed our approach to changing hearts, minds and streets. An #UrbanismBookClub thread.

“The report paints a pretty clear picture that Halifax is pursuing a very debt-intensive and cost-intensive series of initiatives like the Integrated Mobility Plan and HaliFACT,” Fillmore said.

What he means is the last priority in the IMP (cars) using up 90% of the transportation budget.
