THIS is why you must take the attack on #Venezuela for what it is. If you normalize that war crime, then this is what is next. This horrid threat to a NATO country made Today!! Stephen Miller's wife is making it blatantly! #Greenland

This doesn't mean Venezuelan immigrants are safe in the US, bc Miller will invoke the EA act and tell them now that Venezuela is "free" they must move back.
South Florida TV is covering Miami Venezuelans running around in the streets with Venezuelan flags celebrating this whole fiasco, which doesn't exactly disabuse me of the suspicion that this is to shore up flagging GOP support in Miami-Dade after the Miami mayoral election.

I would not be surprised if an influential group of Calgarian-Canadians of American descent were agitating in secret for a division of Marines to save the tarsands from Carney.

Something must happen to people's brains when they get hold of a big military, that they suddenly think "this invasion and brutality won't result in an insurgency! They love us for our <colorful clothing> and <plentiful consumer goods> and they'll be happy to give us their oil/land/children!"
There are a lot of Venezuelans who hate Maduro and might have stayed quiet in response to regime change, but privatizing and stealing the patrimony of an entire nation can galvanize a very angry resistance. Trump can’t help but make himself the villain in this scenario.
Trump says Venezuela's oil wealth "goes also to the United States of America in the form of reimbursement for the damages caused us by that country"

babe wake up, they're doing insider trading on war crimes
“What appears to be a newly created account appeared to invest $30,000 Friday in Maduro's exit. After Maduro went into custody Saturday morning, that same investor netted $436,759.61.”
Someone made $400K by predicting Maduro's capture. Here's what happened
The winnings come as the rules governing prediction markets are still evolving.

Mexico managing to have more spine than every western nation despite being in the immediate crosshairs, fuck every cowardly world leader that tries to play this safe
Mexico:

"The Mexican government strongly condemns and rejects the military actions carried out unilaterally in recent hours by the armed forces of the U.S. against targets in the territory of the Republic of Venezuela, in clear violation of Article 2 of the Charter of the United Nations."

That's the plan.

America gets Canada, Mexico and Central America.

Russia gets Europe.

China gets the Asian countries.

This is the endgame.
"Russian commentators have frequently suggested that Latin America lies in America’s domain just as Ukraine was under the Russian shadow. Vladimir Putin thinks the same of much of eastern Europe. Xi Jinping will draw his own conclusions."

Apparently this attack was originally planned for Christmas.
The ‘Putinization’ of US foreign policy has arrived in Venezuela
Trump is no longer bending the rules – he is demolishing them, with consequences far beyond Caracas

The likelihood you've been right about the course of American politics over the last decade rises in direct proportion to how often you listen to Rage Against the Machine. Having studied political science hurts you a bit. Having worked as a political journalist hurts a lot.
Not the first time I've said it, but I do think we should sit with the fact that the folks likeliest to have predicted we'd elect a reality TV president who'd create a fascist police state where people would be put into unmarked vans for criticizing Israel have been widely ridiculed my entire life.

The Trump doj has a terrible record on these high profile political trials.

The chance a jury dismisses all of Maduro's charges or a judge even allows the trial to take place is very high.

Rubio is claiming that they did not need Congress permission because it was a law enforcement mission. The US is behaving as a global police state, extending its own arbitrary legal decisions to the whole world.

This is not a problem just for Venezuela.
