We will either end fossil fuel dependency and the predatory extractivist basis of global production, or they will end us through wars and ecological collapse - all at the same time.

I work forensics in civil courts and I stopped working police shootings because of this exact circumstance: trigger happy cops will deliberately stand in front of vehicles, and at that point any movement of the vehicle will be treated as an attempted assault on the agent and they’ll open fire.

Individual responsibilization won’t solve anything. ICE was a fascistic institution long before Trump. It got worse after his mass hiring, of course, but it was always an embryonic Gestapo.

Here’s the moment it happens, from what I can see.

Upper right circle = gunsmoke

The shooter is behind the guy at the door obscuring the view.

But you look at foot placement (lower left circle) the shooter is clearly in no danger of being hit by the car.

BBC is all about: don't say Maduro was kidnapped by the US, say he was captured. Also don't say the US wants to invade and annex Greenland, say it's acquisition through military use.

This is journalism where words have no meaning anymore.
US discussing options to acquire Greenland including using military - White House
It came as European allies rallied behind Denmark, which is pushing back against Trump's ambitions for the Arctic island.

Rubio’s 3-phase plan for Venezuela:
1st, stabilize the country by selling 30–50M barrels of oil at market rates and controlling how the revenue is used; 2nd, support economic recovery by opening Venezuelan markets to the U.S., Western, and other countries; 3rd, manage broader political transition.

A warning I constantly make: as climate activists, we must denounce how frames of national sovereignty/interest are used not only to advance fossil fuel operations, but also to persecute and slander climate justice points and advocates.

Let’s be clear: if the Palestine Action hunger strikers die, the government will bear moral responsibility | George Monbiot
The three remaining hunger strikers have been convicted of nothing. Yet with astonishing cruelty, ministers refuse to listen to their reasonable demands, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

My point is the US state is not "seeking to pay for the war" through the seizure of these assets. It's seeking to enable capital accumulation by the private sector. Therefore the oil profits don't need to balance with the cost of occupying Venezuela bc the private sector isn't paying for that.

By grabbing VZ oil, Trump is not just securing a line of resources for the US (even if it's not the most profitable and ready to produce kind of oil): he is also denying VZ a huge chunk of their public budget. This forces privatisation of sectors and opens doors to more US interests.

Also, one can argue that beyond whether Venezuela truly has the largest reserves or not, the fact is the reserves are significant and even heavy crude plays a role in the global fossil industry. Trump might not be looking to make cash right away and will actually de-risk some of it for oil companies

Considering that Guterres basically resorted to public statements and general appeals to humanitarian values when Israel began both the genocide in Gaza and the persecution of UN agencies, I'd say his leverage is pretty close to ZERO.
Several countries, including Mexico just now, have called for the Secretary General to use his good offices and mediate. Other Secretaries General have done this, but Guterres has not often leaned into his political mediation role, and it’s not clear how much leverage he has over the US

As pessoas sabem.
