Opinions made under duress. I’ve blinked two times now to let you know I’m in trouble. Please help.
Yglesias: I think democrats should win elections by taking culturally moderate positions that don’t alienate voters, and then govern effectively while in office.

Response:
i think that you cannot identify a single example, anywhere on earth, of your policy recommendations producing the outcome you predict outside of the context of a single election cycle.

This fucking moron.
Ingraham: Is a 50 year mortgage really a good idea?

Trump: It’s not even a big deal. You go from 40 years to 50

Ingraham: 30

instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

I don’t want to defend democrats on this. I was eager as anyone to see more political pain inflicted on the administration. That being said, maybe I need to check myself. The vulnerable pawns in this game were government employees and SNAP recipients.

*rubs temples* he’s absolutely right.
It's all very stupid, but this is how things work, unfortunately. Politics is about convincing people that things are problems and then convincing people you'll solve those problems. It's all a war of persuasion, happening on a battlefield of hearts and minds. The real world barely intrudes.

Mike Johnson: "The economy and healthcare are two of the primary issues in the country clearly, and that's why we are delighted to run on our record."

Mamdami supported the “uncommitted” movement in the 2024 Democratic primary and did not campaign for Harris in the general. I’d vote for him over Cuomo too but his record hardly speaks to a serious interest in defeating Trump and many On Here would be well served to be clear eyed about that
This is more or less where I am. Would I vote Mamdani in normal times? No. Would I support him over fascists and their throne-sniffing toadies? Fucking absolutely.

Nobody stopped Freddie Oversteegen to ask if she was a socialist when she was luring Nazis into the woods and killing them.
"The Sanders/Mamdani style of democratic socialism is, whatever its merits, at least compatible with America’s tradition of liberal democracy. The Trump style of national socialism is not."

@timmiller.bsky.social please please please get Ross on your show.
In this article about why Harris lost in 2024, Ross Douthat does not mention "inflation" a single time.

I’ve been thinking a lot about a new kind of polling I’d like to see. We have polling that measures public opinion, which is obviously important, but I’d love to see a little more empirical work on public knowledge: what do voters know about politics and policy?

Which party had a majority in the house? Has Donald Trump increased taxes on imports, decreased them or left them the same? What percentage of voters know the US Atty for ED was pushed out by Trump because he wouldn’t indict Tish James and Comey? Etc

Of course he did.

I’m tired of this cycle where “the right” acts like a complete jackass, then the rest of my social media ecosystem goes ballistic about how much of an ass “the right” is. And by “the right” I obviously mean “they” and by “my social media ecosystem” I mean this post. I will link to others.

Are we still calling this the weave, or nah?
Trump: "We had 4 great years. We had the greatest economy in history of our country, but we're blowing it away this time to be honest. As you know, we had the one year deduction. I call it the one year little deduction like you can deduct every single thing. Nobody ever thought that was possible"

Lankford was in the Senate when the Intelligence Committee wrote its giant report concluding that Russiagate was not a hoax, and it's criminal negligence by CNN to let him say this on air with no pushback.
Lankford: "I think now history has proven that Russiagate was a hoax. It was actually formed by James Coney and Brennan and others that were behind the scenes to push a narrative they knew at the time was false." (This is a lie -- would've been nice for Kasie Hunt to point that out.)
