gas town feels more like an experimental fiction writing project than actual software, and maybe that's why it's so brilliant

tip for screensharing animations on zoom

- set display size as close to 1920x1080 (viewers get a 1080p video, closer you are the less downscaling)
- make sure this is checked before starting screenshare

viewers will see a crispier feed and closer to 30fps (regular is ~5fps)

Are there plans to add syntax highlighting to code blocks and inline code to Bluesky? It is one of the top features devs appreciated in Elk. Being able to share a11y code snippets instead of images makes a huge diff. I think it could help a lot to promote tinkering with the protocol among devs

This is one of the coolest fucking things I’ve ever seen

An old school anarchist hacker who goes by Martha Root infiltrated a nazi dating site, got all of their into onto okstupid.lol, and THEN SHE DELETED THE ENTIRE SITE LIVE WHILE DRESSED AS THE PINK POWER RANGER.

hero.

If you care about what building software looks like in the future, start your year reading this one.

Not a crystal ball post or AI hype, just a genuinely fresh take.

Back in the 2000s, Orkut was the biggest social network in Brasil, but their DM system was unusable.

People started using their testimonials feature (think LinkedIn recommendations, but for praising your friends) as a message system, since the request itself was private.
This reminds me of a colleague who used to use Monzo as a chat app by sending £0.01 to a friend and using the reference field as the message. You get the money back when they reply. They send thousands of messages back and forth.
I ran a fairly large blog commenting platform in ~2001 and was taken by surprise when performance tanked because some blog entries suddenly had tens of thousands of comments.

Turns out Japanese teenagers were picking a random blog each day and using the comments as a chatroom.

a required skill for being able to use an LLM in any professional capacity is discernment, essentially already being an expert in the field so you know when (and why) its outputs are incorrect.

now, LLMs are being deployed to non-expert groups in a way that ensures they will never *be* experts
suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:

they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.
