Lucas is pushing for Virginia Dems to gerrymander a 10-1 Dem map in Virginia (rather than 8-4 or 9-3, it's currently 6-5).

Simply amazing that the Supreme Court declared an end to legal race discrimination in the affirmative action case two years ago and now allows overt racism in both immigration arrests and redistricting.

Using race to help minorities? Bad. Using it to discriminate against them? Very, very good.

The piece quotes Kara Swisher — later identified as a friend of Nuzzi's — saying her piece about Biden's age was "the best political reporting out there."

But it wasn't! It came out two weeks after the debate and is just a bunch of anonymous quotes from insiders. Replacement-level stuff.

That would be infinitely more palatable messaging than "Standing up to Donald Trump doesn't work." That it's not the messaging they used suggests to me that maybe it wasn't their reasoning, though, which is a huge part of what made me so angry in the first place.

It isn't the strategy I wanted. I think Republicans would have, in fact, eventually caved (by killing the filibuster). But here we are.

I'm mad about the shut down and worried about healthcare, but not letting people starve is a pretty good reason to cave on this bureaucratic fight, the more I think about it. So just say that: Republicans wanted you to starve rather than compromise, so we let this one go.

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

I’ll keep pushing this line of analysis because I’m increasingly convinced the clearest path out of this mess is for Dems to adopt a relentless anti-corruption, anti-inequality, anti-oligarchy, pro-democracy platform. The Dem leadership hasn’t realized it yet, but they’re now a reform party.
