This thread is absolutely glorious.
I have been doing entirely too much earnest posting about deep things recently, I need to do a proper thread about hippo testicles or something just to keep myself sane.

Oh by the way hippos have migratory testicles.

I just saw this exact sentiment in a real headline scrolling by.

Is it satire when it's dead on?
Republicans say they like fascism and Democrats say that they are against it. The truth is more complicated.

This is intentional. An ignorant populace is a biddable populace. They've been building it for decades.
The scenario in which there are oligarchs powerful enough to succeed at their AI con and force LLMs onto the rest of society is the outright fascist and dystopian scenario. That higher ed has largely capitulated to the scam means it had already been deskilled. We need to understand how and why.
“Ultimately, the collective strategy of AI companies threatens to deskill precisely those people who are essential for society to function(…) automation of knowledge and culture by private companies is a worrying prospect – conjuring dystopian and outright fascistic scenarios.” — @olivia.science

The latest version of that guy who comes up to you at a party and says, "I have an Idea! You write the book and we'll split the profits! 60-40!"
A really interesting, fundamental conceit of all these AI enthusiasts is that the ideas they have are great and all they need is this magic box to execute them. As pedestrian as these people‘s brains are for anything except self aggrandizement, I kind of doubt that’s what’s holding them back.
It’s tiresome at this point, but again, their entire pitch is “wouldn’t it be great if there were no such things as talent, craft, and skill,” and what that means is a bland, slop-filled world. www.businessinsider.com/marc-andrees...

Furthermore, Sinclair will be able to expert the same pressure they did on ABC against other networks.

This is why, instead of a Disney boycott, I'm suggesting a Sinclair boycott.

I grew up in the Sixties. Oh, sweet summer children.
it’s funny how deep the american exceptionalism brainwashing goes. i know better. i’ve known better for years. i’ve breathed gas clouds just like this one. and yet every time i see pictures like this, i want so badly to say “i can’t believe this is america.” but i won’t. because i know better.
Tear gas everywhere.

State media recites state propaganda.
The MSNBC commentator saying that most political violence has historically come from the left just once again showed how we suffer from failing to learn history. Lynching, pogroms, race riots, the political violence that ended Reconstruction, and against the Civil Rights Movement. Come on.

@jannywurts.bsky.social does horse tracking. Jenny, did you know about this?
Hey, you lovers of horses, this is way cool! @dancinghorse.bsky.social
Scent tracking horses are joining the fight to end the missing and murdered indigenous people crisis, including a Native-bred horse from a legendary, historic bloodline, who set a new record for rapidly tracking a subject.

This is some Cultural Revolution shit.

Education in this country will take generations to recover. If it ever does.

An ignorant populace is a biddable populace.
How long will it take before graduate programs in History that focus on non-Anglophone regions get the same treatment? 🗃️
This isn’t an impoverished regional school – this is the University of Chicago. Devastating.

Perfect summary of the 2024 election.
At this point the root of the Tesla problem isn't even Elon Musk, who is doing everything he can to destroy the brand and business... the problem is that ours is a culture of hogs at the slop trough. Whether it's burgers or self-driving scams, we can't tell the difference between good and bad things

This is madness, and it is being called out. Loudly.
This summer Tucsonians started to hear about something called "Project Blue", a proposal to build data centers on our outskirts. The city officials signed a NDA to not disclose the company❗but thanks to @azluminaria.org the company was outed this week as Amazon 🤡 azluminaria.org/2025/07/21/a...

Bingo.
The better you are at a thing, the more "AI" will be a drag on your time, because it's operating at a lower level of skill than you are, and you have to fix what it does, rather than just do what you already know how to do.

#UglyDogs, I just need y’all to know how much enjoyment it brings my 8yo to scroll through the feed with me and snoot boop all the pics of your dogs! He loves making the picture take up the whole screen. Just know, if you’ve posted a pic in the feed, you owe your pup a snoot boop from him! 💜

Who has a mom or aunt who worked for Sheraton in the 90's who they can ask about if they have some of these extremely specific pillows?

(People have already done the ebay thing - I'm asking for a reason.)
I need help: decades ago Minicon was held in a Sheraton that used these pillows. We have two, only one pillowcase, all in bad shape. But they are the pillows my son wants. He’s autistic. Consistency really matters. And I can’t find them for sale anywhere. I’m hoping the internet can help!

This. Absolutely.

And seriously, do you really want an employee unable to write an email? A graphics artist unable to build basic design? Anyone customer facing without problem solving skills and communications aptitude?
Because if you think you don’t need that? You won’t have a business.
I'm an "A.i." abolitionist.

No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything.

Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine.

But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires?

No.
