My TBR pile, filled with authors I like and respect, is mountainous. Let's not even talk about my backlog of games on Steam, or my streaming list. Which authors get invited back to my nightstand? The ones who make me laugh, or cry, or quiver. The ones who make me FEEL.

(Am I rich? Fuck no, I live in a converted hotel room. But I get by, which is more than Hart is doing, and yet the NYT decided she needed a platform.) But the key flaw to the "race" mentality is this: there is literally more media out there, right now, than any one person can consume in a lifetime.

Smarter heads than me have done the math and figured she's making around $500 a "book." Y'all, I spend three thousand dollars between editing and cover design, and another $3k on audiobook narration. If I only made $500 a book, I'd be on the street.
