Would a pizza with peas be merely questionable, or actively horrible? How about beets? Thinking of making either a peazza or a beetzza some time soon. Maybe I'll do half and half.

Does anyone actually believe that the Melanoma movie has done well, by any standard? When the people involved all lie this much, artificial inflation of the numbers seems vastly more likely.

Hasn't gone above freezing here since January 22, and that was only one day since January 15. Lot of time spent below 15℉ too, and of course some snow. This has been quite a spell even by Boston-area standards.

Used my Thai basil chicken recipe and authentic Thai basil/peppers to make Thai basil beef. Yum! Still some tweaking to be done, but definitely a good addition to the repertoire.

MAGA is Main Character Syndrome.

(I don't feel like breaking this up into tiny posts, so I'm using the alt-text loophole instead.)

Today's #running report: meh. 21°F, flat 5km course with only a few small ice patches. One short and one medium break, but still decent pace overall. One heart-rate warning. Pretty good for first run in more than a week. All that shoveling Mon-Wed must have been aerobic enough to make a difference.

TIL that paradoxical drug reactions are another indicator of ADHD. Guess what my mother was notorious for? The only weird reaction I'm aware of in myself is sedative resistance, but I guess that still counts as another clue.

There are signs that the whole "do X terrible thing to distract from Y terrible thing" strategy might be backfiring. Now people all across the country are hopping mad about *both* DHS terrorism and the absolute filth in the Epstein files. Fighting on two fronts is dumb strategy for the smaller team.

Finally got to compare Oblivion Remastered on old and new computers.

* No more "HW doesn't meet requirements" popup

* Much higher resolution and effect/detail level

* Higher and *more stable* frame rate - no more jank

Finally taking advantage of the "remastered" part. 🎉

Is there any internet speed tests that Verizon doesn't cheat on? All the ones I've tried report near-gigabit speeds (which is what I pay for) but no real application gets much more than a tenth of that. They're not even being subtle about it. Seems fraud-ish.

Wow. Setting up my new machine, and "restore apps from other machine" skips Steam, nor can it even be found in the Windows app store. That's so fucking small of you, @microsoft.com

Somebody should ask Howard Lutnick if the reason he can't remember planning a trip to Epstein Island is because it doesn't stand out against all the other rape/torture/snuff trips he went on.

My new best friend just arrived.

As I was not-sleeping last night, I came up with the idea of a panel-type space heater with its own built in battery, so that during a power outage it can run automatically to keep pipes from freezing etc. Can't seem to find one, which means it's either a really bad idea or a really good one.

Wildlife teams are working to save cold stunned sea turtles affected by this unexpected cold wave. They're housing the turtles in a convention center as a temporary recovery space until the waters warm enough for safe release back into the ocean.

I accidentally supported today's strike. In other words, I didn't buy anything, but I hadn't intended to anyway.

Bsky's habit of throwing up "your feed is empty" once in a while, in response to a garden-variety connection error or timeout, is a prime example of programmer shittiness. No, my feed is not empty. It was never empty. You're just lying, to cover up the fact that you can't write robust code.

Looks like I won't be getting my new laptop today, because delivery was attempted while I was at pickleball and apparently a second nap of the day was more important than answering the door. So now I'll be chained to the house tomorrow.

New gaming laptop should arrive today. I'd say I'm medium excited. It's not a *big* deal, but I expect it to be a solid improvement over the one I have now. Looking forward to seeing the difference in Oblivion (remaster) but even more so in the next few games I play.

Well, that was certainly a crappy night's sleep!

Broccoli cheese soup finishes blending in another half hour or so. Soup, bread, happy juice, and a good book will all be the perfect reward for a very productive day.

In addition to just being newer, with fresh tread and such, my new tires seem distinctly *quieter* than my old ones. Nice little bonus, that.

I think two things are necessary for "AI" to become truly successful. (1) Fuse old-school model/planning approaches with new-school neural-net approachs. I know people are working on this, but they seem to be a small minority. (2) Make outputs explainable and therefore the systems accountable!

So, um, I did A Thing. I took A Pill, which wasn't mine, and you'll probably be able to guess what kind. Rearranged stuff in the basement to get to my resin supplies, which I haven't used for months. Used some as part of restoring a table. Got back in touch with some friends. About to make soup.
