Currently drinking a glass of garnacha and awaiting some veggie empanadas at a wine bar in Palm Desert. Tomorrow Anza Borrego, a desperately needed departure from news and work. Staying at a friend’s in PHX tomorrow night and taking her back to NM to care for her mom who is now in hospice.

More palate cleanser. Amazing to think (iirc a conversation with Becky Dorsey years ago) that separation/uplift along the San Jacinto fault zone occurred in around 700,000 years. View east at the intersection of Ramona Exy and Hwy 79.

We all know where we will Not be making future reservations.

How much $ hurt can we inflict on them?
UPDATE on that Hilton franchise that refused to host ICE agents:

They're no longer a Hilton franchise 😬
Hilton said it is breaking from a franchise that was accused of canceling ICE agents' reservations at its Minneapolis-area location

Just a reminder that George Conway is not fundraising right now to run against a MAGA republican.

He is fundraising to run against progressive Democrats.

In 1916 the U.S. signed an agreement for control of St. Thomas, St. John & St. Croix, known as the “Danish West Indies,” in exchange for $25 million & a declaration that the U.S. would “not object to the Danish Govt extending their political & economic interests to the whole of Greenland.

Cheesus, this is bad. There’s more quoted in the post below.
"While children in California, which does not allow for nonmedical vaccine exemptions, are vaccinated against measles at 96 percent, there is not a single county in Idaho, Louisiana, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah or Wisconsin whose kindergarten rates meet herd immunity protection."
EXCLUSIVE: @laurenweberhp.bsky.social & I have spent the last year collecting school+county-level vaccination data from across the US and found that only about 28% of counties now have herd immunity for kindergartners from measles—that leaves about 5.2mn kids unprotected.

When I first started using Kagi, I thought unpersonalised search would be a problem; but I’ve been a user for over a year and the results are consistently better than google’s

Turns out search personalisation might have been of benefits to advertisers, not users, all along?
With Kagi, you pay for search instead of paying with your data. Kagi does not attach search queries to user accounts, does not load any analytics or telemetry, and does not track which search results you choose to pick, keeping your searches private and anonymous.

We need to have a serious talk about the way "AI companion" apps not only prey on the vulnerable, but are priming their users to ignore consent and to conflate love with control.

We need AI regulations across so many sectors, but this area is particularly horrifying.
