This is the unfortunate reality in German academia. Most scholars have to drop out, but usually they are not welcome in other places. If you're an international researcher (this is my case), the situation is even more tough & options for employment outside of science are very [extremely] limited.
German academia: great place to work? You should think twice before giving it a try: Permanent positions are very rare, most scholars have to drop out after some precarious years. @dianakwon.bsky.social has written a great piece about this for @nature.com and also talked to yours truly. #IchBinHanna
How to stop the revolving door of German academia
Germany is one of the most popular destinations for students and scholars worldwide, but those pursuing academic careers face significant hurdles to success.

Counterpoint: one side of my family is Austrian and they know how to cook properly.

And the off-kilter streak that we have sometimes pays off, e.g. White Castle stuffing, which is actually delicious. And pies that consist mostly of butter.

Read a thread on Facebook about the difficulty of learning various foreign languages for native English speakers, and the Germans kept chiming in to say that German should be easier than French or Spanish, and on par with Dutch or the Scandinavian languages.

Um, no.

Every office has an executive tier whose emails are like:

saw on news , , can we replce complianc dept with web 3

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

Today is the day that "everything in German history happened". Good things and bad.

Never forget what Germans did to other Germans on November 9, 1938.

I'd say that you can find good in many people who voted for Trump, but you won't find it in their reasons for voting for Trump or in their ideas about politics.

I know Trump voters who can be kind and generous and loving. If you ask why they voted for Trump they'll give you misinfo and bigotry.

The GOP has been extremely effective at shaping perceptions of the Democrats, claiming they support policy positions they don't actually support

If your strategy, as a Dem, for winning in 2028 *STARTS* by buying their spin and lies, then you've already lost
