Wer in der Wissenschaft als exzellent gelten will, muss sichtbar sein. Nur: Frauen werden für Sichtbarkeit abgestraft. Sie können es schlicht nicht richtig machen! Kein Wunder, dass Gleichstellung im dt. Wissenschaftssystem schleppend vorangeht.

Today is World Science Day for Peace and Development.

Sadly, science now experiences by far not the best times, there is no peace either and there is a wish for a better development too...

87 years ago today, the Kristallnacht burned. 36 years ago today, the Berlin Wall fell.

Whether from the darkness of 9.11.1938 or light of 9.11.1989, the lesson for 🇩🇪 in 2025 is clear: Fight for freedom. Stop fascists. #StandWithUkraine. Their fight for freedom & peace is ours.

Dorado software by Nanopore caused a network failure to Ubuntu. Tried everything possible but nothing works. So, likely need to reinstall the entire system to fix the issue. Result: ca. 1 week of my worktime is going to be lost.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Watson was very famous but also very controversial. The question is whether scientific community will ever be able to address ethical issues related to him and other researchers or not. www.bbc.com/news/article...

SInce many search engines incorporated AI-generated summaries for virtually any request, I have a couple of questions:
- AI summary is not a reliable source, so why it is given first, in larger font and with no or hidden warning?
- how much energy is being wasted for generation of this nonsense?

Paradox: employed person speds ca. 17% of income for health insurance but every time you need medical care you should beg for compensation and deeal with AI autoresponses and extremely aggressive & hostile staff and doctors. For such amount of money the service should be much better.

Honestly, I do not like German healthcare system because there is no way to know in advance how much medical procedure will cost you at the end (usually a lot, therefore visiting doctor could easily bankrupt you). And you never know whether insurance will cover something or not and to what extent.

About cultural differences with a bit of botany: there is a very typical Ukrainian idiom/phraseme: "giving somebody a pumkin"/"getting pumkin", which mean rejection. However, it seems such an idiom is absent in the most of European countries/languages.
