This map from recent paper in NatComm is just another example of how russia uses science in its war. It shows that russians sequenced plant samples from annexed Crimea & temporary occupied territories in Ukraine. The question is how it passed peer-review & got published without problems.

NCBI put a notice on partial halt of its operations because of a lapse of governmental funding.

If you have any data (sequences, raw reads, genome assemblies, etc.) to submit, it is now better to do it in ENA [if allowed].

At the first day of the Nobel Week Ukrposhta issued a special stamp series called "Freedom in the equation" commemorating Ukrainian scientists killed by russia.

It starts with the following question/answer:
"Why there is still no scientists-Nobel laureates in Ukraine? - They were killed by russia."

This picture shows what must be avioded for many reasons.
- russia uses double/multiple strikes routinely, so if you're on/near the spot targeted by ru UAV/missile do not spend your time on taking pictures
- the condition of targeted object is unknown
- you may disturb rescue operation

According to MFA minister Andrii Sybiha, russia used one of its most barbaric practices in its attack on Shostka - double strike. They [russians] hit the train, waited until resuce operation and evacuation begins and then hit the same area again to target rescue workers and evacuees.

New day - new spam from predatory publishers. This time - from MDPI which sadly remains large semi-monopolist OA publisher.

The general advice: never publish your papers in publishing houses that behave unethically and have questionable/predatory policies.
September 15, 2025 at 2:13 PM
Meanwhile, spam from predatory publishers becomes not only more frequent but also more aggressive, triggering & rude.

It is long overdue for scientific community to at least try to address this problem because it gets only worse with time.

Since UCU positions itself as "European university", then they should take a look on other catholic universities in Europe.
For instance, KU Leuven is doing pride weeks (example below), campaingns against discrimination and for inclusion & safety.

BBC headline is extremely misleading. In reality buffer zone will never end the war. It is long overdue for major mass-media to accept a very simple reality: nothing will end the war unless russia is defeated militarily.

5. Besides, there is one thing that is especially interesting in the context of "russophobia" accusations - if you go to the congress website, you'll see that the half of it is actually written in russian although there are many other slavic languages.

Additional context:
(partial traslation)
- where can I read the speach, perhaps it isn't rusophobic at all?
- unfortunately I do not have it. I just believed in what was said.

So-called "russian science" in a nutshell.
To those who cannot read in russian - they complain about Ukrainian flag & words of support for Ukraine during the opeining ceremony of the International Congress of Slavists in Paris.

Accidentally spotted almost a textbook example of absolutely inappropriate behavior. It seems that this "lecturer" has absolutely no idea about scientific evidence & method. And yes, I think that all those lecturers/advisors who publicly mock their students are completely unfit for profession.

This is aftermath of russia's attack on Kharkiv this morning. The cause for all that is russian aggression, not Ukraine's defensive actions.
