I did an interview with @davidhallerwrites.bsky.social that you may enjoy; I talk about a few things I don't think I have talked about before. Plus, enjoy a huge picture of my fast-collapsing middle-aged face which I do not even hide with a beard. www.davidhallerwrites.com/post/freeze-...

This is a heartbreaking read – Books With Pictures is a brilliant shop in Portland. If there's a shop that would leave a huge hole in both the industry AND its community, it's this. I know money is tight but please consider sending some Katie's way.
Books with Pictures (@bkswpicspdx.bsky.social) in Portland, Oregon is a GREAT comic shop, and its owner in @omgkatiep.bsky.social is one of the best. The shop is going through a hard time right now, and if you want to help BwP out, they opened a GoFundMe to help do just that.

From the very same paragraph in Orwell's essay: "England has got to be true to herself. She is not being true to herself while the refugees who have sought our shores are penned up in concentration camps, and company directors work out subtle schemes to dodge their Excess Profits Tax."
Peroration from Robert Jenrick’s speech at the Roger Scruton conference today:

“In the words of George Orwell, ‘nothing ever stands still. We must add to our heritage, or lose it. We must grow greater or grow less. We must go forward or backward.’ I say, let’s go forward.”

So,as a little thought-experiment, tell me something about the United Kingdom that works well and is actually quite impressive. I am not trying to sound like some boosterish politician. I just genuinely believe that making people believe that all is lost is a convenient pretext for shady characters.

I am entirely in favour of the techno-utopian project of creating superhuman godlike intelligences that solve all the world's problems.
The problem is, the people trying to do it are thick as pigshit and think their mad-libs machines will just magically do that.

It makes so much sense now...
Raccoons can also sleep in their dens for several weeks at a time and vocalise by screaming, whistling, hissing, growling and snarling. They can react badly when cornered by humans, and can even attack if they need to, although they’d rather retreat. The more I read, the more I related.
I unmasked my autism and found out I was five raccoons in an overcoat
Ever since my autism diagnosis six years ago, I’ve struggled with my identity. After years of masking my autistic traits, I wasn’t even sure who I really was underneath it all. It’s taken many years a...
