This is not suggestive of ‘build, build, build’.
UK construction employment was 2.05 million in 2025 Q3; 1.3% lower than in Q2 & 4.1% lower than in Q1, before the house building slowdown & employers’ National Insurance Contributions rise, & lower thresholds, in April, according to the ONS. (1/n)

Anyone on the left who thinks that the BBC falling would help their politics, here and abroad, is an unbelievable fool
Revealing division in my timeline between (1) my insider friends who have lived privileged lives who are very keen that we defend the BBC and think it's important it survives and (2) my outsider friends who feel (at best) ambivalent about the BBC's survival.

Great idea! Why not apply it to every part of the state as well. Whenever something is going badly you can just take it away completely
Personally I'd be pleased to see BBC News disappear entirely. To argue, as many do, that British politics or our news environment would be so much worse without the BBC you have to explain why British politics and news environment is so very bad with the BBC.

In fairness, occasionally they sell out to the Russians.
John Le Carre was right about the British establishment and how the alumni of the best schools will sell out their own country for status and money and in particular a desperate desire for American attention

IMO the worst thing about this government is its failure to see Trump, Farage, anti-immigration rhetoric, rising racism, and the 'gender critical' lobby as connected elements of a global war against liberalism and social democracy – and instead treating them as discrete issues to be 'managed'.

Conservative Shadow Culture Secretary Nigel Huddleston tells GB News that the BBC should "grovel" to Trump.

I said yesterday a smart government would use this attempted bullying of the BBC by Trump to shore the BBC up and reclaim the mantle of patriotism from the right and expose them for the Britain-hating charlatans they are. We do not have a smart government.
If Labour had any sense they’d use this to talk about how Farage & the Tories hate this country - people used to remember that voters hate politicians who do that
Tory culture spox demanding the BBC "grovel" to Trump is baffling. Who is this supposed to chime with?
Just a bizarre line that no one who doesn't use X would ever think.

I am extremely disappointed that Charlotte Nichols MP continues to promote this frivolous and pointless campaign, rather than addressing the transphobia that actually led to Brianna Ghey being murdered.
On Brianna's 19th birthday, this morning I joined @cheshirepcc.bsky.social and the Brianna Ghey Legacy Project Phone Free Education campaign at the launch at Jodrell Bank of a new £150k initiative to make Cheshire the first county in the UK where ALL state high schools have lockable phone pouches.

Vi har avdekket at forskerne fikk avslag på fritak fra taushetsplikten og fra å innhente samtykke til forskning fra pasientene - tre ganger.
De gjennomførte forskningsprosjektet likevel.

HMP Wandsworth gets ‘green light’ to use AI after team sent in to find ‘quick fixes’ after spate of mistakes
Artificial intelligence chatbots could be used to stop prisoners from being mistakenly released from jail, a justice minister told the House of Lords on Monday.
Lord Timpson said HMP Wandsworth had been given the “green light” to use artificial intelligence (AI) after a specialised team was sent in to find “some quick fixes”. Continue reading...

The Anglo consensus of the first half of 2010s was that where continental Europeans were endemically subject to crises and demagoguery, "we" were distinctly were more enlightened. Cameron's Britain. Obama's America. Ponderous essays about Magna Carta and the "golden thread".
How wrong it all was.

I fear we are seeing in the UK what has become abundantly clear in the US: for all their power and privilege, elites and institutions are absolute cowards in the face of right-wing authoritarianism. Weak, weak, weak, as Tony Blair once said
