Chinggis Khan dies from complications from falling off a horse! This is the problem with going 'arf arf, what is Aragorn's tax policy'....real life is often either a) dramatically unsatisfying or b) so dramatically neat as to feel contrived.
that's what makes medieval history so wild that so many stories of powerful rulers end with "and then on campaign he got the chills and died"

or in the case of vlad vi of wallachia "after a couple of large ones got on his horse and rode into the dâmbovița river"

Good to see this Reform proposal is finally being noticed.

As a result of one interview, Reform are now pledged rhetorically to introduce a new law that would protect each of the main anti-discrimination characteristics in the Equality Act 2010 law that have pledged to repeal/replace.
The Reform proposal to repeal the Equality Act + anti-discrimination laws (a proposal which Farage made and u-turned on in 2015, but which is back in 2026) has gone almost completely under the radar
Braverman is now lambasting equalities policies, saying Reform would scrap the equalities brief and repeal the Equality Act. Giving her this role - any role, in fact - does feel like quite a risk for Reform.

a lot of Clone Saga is a bit off and _then_ there's DeMatteis and Romita Jr going "let's do a straight-up gritty crime noir story set in Salt Lake City, with our leads being a depressed drifter and his unknown half-brother who stalks him, no we don't need any super-costumes"
I remember first reading the Clone Saga through the Lost Years, and my God I was fully blown away by John Romita Jr.’s art. Especially that page of Ben kneeling in the rain, total masterpiece of artwork there (hyperbolic, but those are my genuine feelings).

The Lost Years was a great mini.

Problem about the loneliness epidemic is, it's everywhere except in representative survey data. Let's look at where the claim comes from. 1/
Case in point, @pengzell.bsky.social just sent me 5 papers proving that there’s not actually any evidence for a loneliness epidemic. My mind is highly changed

This is basically my suggestion for pitching future shocks - someone’s probably thought of your twist, so start with it, sucker punch them with second twist.
Twist endings are overrated. Give me twist beginnings. End Act 1 with a twist and then explore the consequences. Let the great surprise be your premise.

It worked for The Girl With All The Gifts. It worked for Project Hail Mary. It can work for you.

The way we've gotten so weird about "performative" is understandable when a lot of white folks want to do a little performance and then reap the benefits as if they've done all the work.

But man we gotta PERFORM to jerk this Overton window back to where it should be. Flood the damn zone.
I know people like to dunk on wearing tiny "ICE OUT" pins, but I think they represent a really important culture shift. Even people who are very conscious about their image and expected to perform in a palatable way are wearing them in very public places.

Experts are claiming that laborious workplace tasks will become 100% easier when we don't have jobs.
"Our standing rule is: If one of us brings up using GenAI in any of our work, then it's safe to assume we've been assimilated by The Thing and should be burned alive by Kurt Russell," said a game design consultant in the US.
Over 50% of game developers now think generative AI is bad for the industry, a dramatic increase from just 2 years ago: 'I'd rather quit the industry than use generative AI'
The latest GDC survey also found that managers are more likely to use generative AI than their employees.
