fun historical fact: among the core political forces in the development of mass incarceration was the "Victims' Rights Movement". Its first major legislative national legislative victory was under President Reagan. The prison population doubled under his administration.
An innocent man who committed no crime but is the same race as the person who murdered your daughter should have to spend the rest of his life in a concentration camp is the argument?

I have a counterpoint to all this, which is that AGI is never going to happen, and that most of the risk posed by "ai" is people taking ai output as gospel and doing real-world stuff with it, instead of, like, thinking for themselves

seems like a datapoint about capitalism that being the richest guy on earth can’t buy you either class or love, dooms you to a cartoonishly impoverished imagination, attenuates your insecurities to an almost psychotic degree, and is just entirely compatible with being a worthless piece of shit

In honor of St. Patrick's Day and my Irish ancestors, here is one of my favorite Irish stories for you.

In the early 2000s, Irish police had their hands full with a serial criminal named Prawo Jazdy. They weren’t violent, but they did have a total lack of respect for the rules of the road...

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

With things like land acknowledgments and “pronoun policing,” it’s not this never happened, nor that every time it did was great, never ever misguided, cringy, annoying, etc

It’s

1) Nowhere near as pervasive as made out to be

and

2) Not even close to a rational justification for ending democracy
