There's literally no reason for Congress to exist if any random freak in the presidential orbit can nullify laws and seize federal funds. All of this is plainly illegal, but Mike Johnson leads the most corrupt Congress in US history (and by a wide margin.)

biden-era policies were extremely geared toward the working class, whose wages went up at much higher rates than the top half of earners and saw a job boom, as well as IRA investment in traditional manufacturing regions. they rewarded him by switching heavily to Trump.

I'm condemning social media because it has BROKEN OUR SOCIETY and CAUSED A REBIRTH OF FASCISM, which seems worth being a little bit shrill over. No, I don't have a good solution for the problem. But if you want a structural explanation of why insane extremism is on the rise worldwide, this is it.
The repeated shrill condemnation of social media (a more or less inevitable consequence of the internet) is just going to feed increasingly pro-censorship sentiment, and it really worries me when sensible people like yourself don't acknowledge that.

If Trump was meaningfully unpopular it would manifest itself as regret over not voting for Harris. Whatever Harris represented to voters in comparative terms still remains worse in their minds and the negative reactions to what’s happening now seems priced into their vote for it.
