The attacks on trans rights, which are basic human rights, are a terrible injustice and an attack on truth and fact as well. Everyone should be deeply alarmed and it should be disqualifying for a politician to support such discrimination.

If you're new to cooking or don't trust yourself to recognize a bad AI recipe, for the love on god, do not just use random recipes from random profiles. Find trustworthy sites and creators (Serious Eats, NYT Cooking, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, Alton Brown) and search their archives for what you need.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

Mira Nair:

“Even to say ‘it makes us look bad’ implies that you’ve got the point of view of the outsider […] looking at you. I don’t do that.”

“I never was here to become a part of an A list that was heading to Hollywood. I’m here to do what I want to do as an artist.”

I interviewed ferociously brilliant filmmaker Mira Nair, a.k.a Zohran Mamdani’s mother, about how her voice and vision have shaped a man who sees a better way forward for all of us. SPOILER ALERT: Love matters.

So what happens when you get to the billionaires? Well, Bloomberg has a running list of the wealthiest people in the world.

The poorest of that 500-person list is almost two complete orbits of the globe away from poverty.

I decided to convert dollars to centimeters. That allows us to visualize, for example, the distance between having no money and being at poverty level — about four city blocks.

So when people talk about the inevitably of AI, or casually mention they use Chat GPT for something, it's as wild to me as someone striking up a conversation about betting on football, or buying heroin, or whatever gun people talk about.

It's taken me a while to put my finger on it, but I've realised that my attitude toward using "AI" in its modern sense is the same as my attitude to stuff like gambling, hard drugs, and firearms. I just don't engage with it at all. Not interested. Don't understand why anyone else is either.

Thinking again about how much I love John Carpenter's CHRISTINE, an easy top 3 entry in his filmography. What a weirdly prescient and insightful film about homosociality, masculinity, and the paradoxical violent power and extreme fragility of the self.
