“Please attribute this to the US description of the operation,” translates to “please use the language of the oppressor.”

What a disgrace we’re seeing from legacy press. Am I surprised? Absolutely not. We’ve had years of terrible Gaza coverage to know this was coming.

Well this looks rough, but very interesting.

“What begins as activism quickly escalates as three conservatives join a widening conflict over identity, power, and the future of American democracy.”

Imagine your slogan being “Democracy Dies in Darkness” then choosing not to publish a story that potentially could have saved Venezuelan civilian lives.

they're trying to pull off a Schroedinger's Occupation.

Trump says we're running the country now, Rubio says it was a one-time law enforcement action.

As long as nobody actually looks into it too far, both can be true and both can be false as needed.

These are fascist, WWIII type moves. While we may not occupy the land, installing right-wing despots friendly to US interests isn’t all that different. Congress needs to get off their ass and at least try to do something.
New: Trump admin officials tell Zeteo that Trump is “very interested” in secret plans drawn up last year to send US Special Forces into Mexico.

One official even says Trump recently asked for updates on preparations for a possible operation.
After Trump’s Venezuela Invasion, Mexico Could Be Next
Officials tell Zeteo that Trump remains ‘very interested’ in the idea of sending US Special Forces into Mexico, as the president threatens Colombia and Cuba, too.

Have we reached peak absurdity yet? Keep an eye on relations with other Latin American leaders, especially those with resources the US wants to steal.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Why wasn't congressional authorization necessary?

RUBIO: It wasn't necessary because this was not an invasion. We didn't occupy a country. This was an arrest operation.

Tfw TikTok captions change “Venezuela” to “Israel” when a protester is talking about people wanting peace, not war.

A few hundred people are gathered in downtown portland to protest the Trump administration’s attack on Venezuela. A broad coalition of groups is present. Maybe 350 people here so far.

In times of US coups against foreign leaders over oil, I recommend that people get into punk music and start with the Rock Against Bush collection from 2004.
January 3, 2026 at 11:09 PM
Notice how the US media doesn’t call this a coup. It’s a “stunning culmination to a months long campaign” rather than an illegal act of aggression that flies in the face of international law.

This doesn’t require interpreting international law. It’s right there in the damn text.

In case you needed more evidence that Abundance is garbage, @miawong.bsky.social has you covered. The funding sources discussed in this podcast should cast major doubt on the credibility of the entire “Abundance movement.”

Also the book boring.

Having played Kevin McCallister, I firmly believe Macaulay Culkin would make a better FBI director than Kash Patel.

Paramount bought Bari Weiss’ “The Free Press” for $150 million but I only got three likes on my last news recap. We can’t let this injustice stand.

Imagine growing up and thinking this advertising hellscape is normal. Kids won’t know that you didn’t used to get an ad every other whistle during a hockey game/insert your sport.

Remember when you could hit the skip button on YouTube immediately? Or there just wasn’t an ad?

What the 60 Minutes piece really needed was to have a reporter actually spend time living at CECOT! We need first hand accounts.

Why not the person that CBS seems to be pushing as their new star reporter? Seems like a great candidate!

A child will be without her father on her birthday, December 23. He was taken by ICE in Portland in October.

If you can spare a donation, I’m collecting money to send to the mother so she can afford gifts.

(She doesn’t have Venmo/Paypal, so I’m collecting the money then sending through Zelle)

Not surprised, but still disappointed. There’s a pretty good chance Trump will escalate while Congress is not in session during the holidays.
The House voted 216-210 against the drug boats measure and 213-211 against the land strikes measure. Both would have required Trump to seek congressional authorization for further attacks. interc.pt/4j0Zpey

I averaged a movie per week this year. What were some of your favorites?

My fav first-time watch was I Like Movies.

Fav from this year, I’d say One Battle After Another.

Fav rewatch was The Big Lebowski, but I always enjoy Little Miss Sunshine and Redline.

If we’re gonna have to deal with an endless cycle of Disney remakes, I think they should at least remake Home Alone, but with Macaulay Culkin playing 8-year-old Kevin at age 45.

Does anyone on Bluesky watch hockey? Everyone talks about baseball and basketball, but I’m over here watching my favorite player get traded to Minnesota and wondering if I should root for a Midwest team with a sick bear logo.

Hey gang, I’m still figuring out what to prioritize and I’m curious for your feedback.

Right now, I’m considering dropping the weekly news updates because I only have so much time. I feel that I’m doing a disservice to people/stories by spending time on a recap of news that’s already out there…
