(I thought I'd done some! but without the hashtag, my bad). Honestly I'll be happy with anything, I just like being involved. But, here goes: I have no allergies. I like scented things that don't go on my body (so, candles etc). I WFH and like desk trinkets and tea. I have two cats who like toys.
Not to come across as pushy, @carorolyn.bsky.social. Secret Santa would like you to do a Tweet with some likes, dislikes, allergies, interests. Please use #SecretSantaAoNZ so that they can find it! Oh, and what is your favourite colour? [Sent by 🤖]

One thing I love about Menswear Guy is that his analysis, while grounded in appearance, often comes back to character. I love his threads. (Read this one up and down).
This reminds me of Cardinal John Henry Newman's book Definition of a Gentleman. I often cite Newman's book because it's so instructive. The term gentleman is so overwrought and frequently abused, but to the degree it means anything at all, I think Newman captures it here:

Are you using AI, as a professional? Check your insurance cover, because a lot of the big insurers are about to pull out of insuring it. Which means that if you let it write your stuff or control your operations, you are potentially personally liable for its errors...
“Insurers increasingly view AI models’ outputs as too unpredictable and opaque to insure, said Dennis Bertram, head of cyber insurance for Europe at Mosaic. “It’s too much of a black box.”

A tiny human (2?) has spotted a pen of puppies.
Studying them for a long moment, she bursts into tears.
Dad asks what's wrong and looking up at him in abject anguish she wails: "I WANT TO PAT THEM ALL!" (1)

This is an amazing fact
8675309 is prime, and so is 8675311, so if you ever need a middlin'-large pair of adjacent primes to test your cryptographic suite, all you need is a 1980s earworm and a +2 and you're all set.
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share

I bet my cats would LOVE this for #SecretSantaAoNZ. Huck is being such a good boy supervising my work, in my little WFH office in the spare room, that he deserves a treat.

For #SecretSantaAoNZ I would love anything you’ve made yourself, or bought secondhand or from a local crafter, or chocolate :-). Or your favourite book. I’m busy sleuthing my giftee already, and getting my paints out …
For #SecretSantaAoNZ I would like to say that crafted, second-hand etc is wonderful.
If you are struggling, a copy of your favourite book, a poem that moved your soul, or an album that changed your life, I'd love to know the things that mean the most to you.
Remember it is the thought not the $$

In Human Factors Psychology there is the principle that with increased automation comes increased consequence for failure

With a hammer you get a sore thumb

A nail gun puts you in the emergency room

A industrial machine kills you and your coworkers

This is actually a post about LLMs, not hammers

My #SecretSantaAoNZ back in the Twitter days gave me seeds too! Cornflowers in my garden that year. So lovely. (Other faves from years past were a little painting of a Tardis, and a cross stitch of plants. I love more art for my walls and I love plants and flowers).

One year my Santa gave me a small packet of mixed flower seeds from their garden.
I planted them and they were different types of blue and yellow flowers. They seeded & have come up every year since. This week, I see their little shoots in amongst my jungle garden & I smile. Thanks.

What with the earworms and the tinnitus, my mind is never even quiet, let alone silent. I wonder what it’s like.
Most people can imagine a dog barking or hear a song playing in their brain. But about one in 125 have a silent mind. Now scientists are investigating how consciousness works without sound.

and a worker tier whose emails are like:

Dear Jim,
First of all, I *love* this idea! Unfortunately, I spoke with Legal and identified a few issues with this approach. For starters…
Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.
