I don't like to talk about stories before they are fully reported, but I am writing on ICE in a Minnesota town that isn't Minneapolis. However bad you think it is, it is worse. It is a campaign of pure terror whose only strategic goal is more terror. There is no strategy other than to break people.

it should be noted, Frederick Douglass was at the Seneca Falls Convention, and it was Douglass who argued forcefully and successfully for the convention to endorse votes for women.

We're gonna need a lot of boring-ass moderates to put this shithole regime in the ground. And you'd all better be ready to vote for them (and, indeed, for just about anyone with a 'D' next to their name).
Some observations on Taylor Rehmet's upset campaign:

He didn't talk about "useless Democrats".

He didn't talk about ICE.

He relentlessly talked about affordability.

He's not even on Bluesky.

Posters: PUNISH ICE.

Schumer: Okay, I've split DHS funding off from the Budget, so the economy won't shut down as we have two focused weeks of negotiation to demand real change of DHS from Trump.

Posters: ... (spinning pizza wheel)

BUT YOU DIDN'T PUNISH ICE!!!

Thank you @democrats.senate.gov for voting unanimously for Senator Sanders’ Amendment to strip ICE of BBB funding. Can you please demand the Sanders Amendment as a condition to fund DHS now that you’ve successfully separated it from the larger spending package?

A point I've not bothered trying to have a conversation with them about is how they think it impacts people's lifetime support for the Democratic Party if they blame them for making their kids go hungry and how that might affect the trajectory of the USA and the world.

For those who believe that a Democratic majority in Congress will be somehow inconsequential, look at what is happening right now without those majorities.

Now picture that same movement backed by hearings, investigations, and legislation.

It doesn’t matter that Don Lemon hired a superstar attorney or that the case against him is meritless.

There are too many journalists with far less money and far fewer resources than Lemon who will be more cautious going forward. That was the intent, and that’s the main problem.

I don't know whether it is the #1 Catherine O'Hara accomplishment but the fact that she invented a manner of speaking that no other person in human history has ever attempted for Schitts Creek and made it seem realistic that her character would talk that way felt like a comedy miracle to me

my increasingly curmudgeonly take is that we all, in fact, have responsibilities. politics isn't an arena for self-actualization. it's an arena for public service. this is as true of voters as it is of politicians.
Ps: a common refrain that you'll hear is that "you're saying the Dems can't be at fault, it's the voters, as if the voters owe something to politicians and not the other way around!"

Yes, actually, that's how the social contract of democracy works. Voters yet the government they work for. Or don't.
