This is sarcasm for those who are unfamiliar with me. Sad that needs to be said.
My house is on fire. Should I call Ghostbusters?
Also, anytime you are thinking about calling the cops, ask yourself, "will this situation be improved by (more) guns?" If the answer is no, don't call them.

I wonder how many people know "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is a waltz.
The Replacements briefly covered "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" on Oct 15, 1985, the first gig of a 5-night homestand at the 7th Street Entry, opening with a song off their new album "Tim"—"Lay It Down, Clown"—and this was next. Video image is the Entry + the Fitz

Mitch McConnell raged impotently during the few weeks Democrats had the number to pass law over a filibuster. He raged impotently as Democrats confirmed Obama's nominees.
He blocked everything for 2011 onward because he had a majority.
How is anyone dumb enough to post this nonsense?

No, not at all. Shitty Mitch McConnell destroyed the democrats as minority leader. A good leader in the minority needs to be super tactical and ruthless & who that is is more important than when we're in the majority- then anyone will do.

I assume Christine is worried she'll be bored & neglected after losing relevance as the child of a high profile elected Democrat. People outside that district who care about a CA State Senate race are even more bored. Idk who else is running, but give them money if you care. I don't.
Christine Pelosi, daughter of Nancy Pelosi, has announced she’s running for the California State Senate.

If you *want* to force the GOP into nuking the filibuster, you should want it to be a lot closer to the election. We can only tie up vote suppression laws in courts for a month or two. If you're convinced they'll do it, you should at least care about the timing.
Again- this CR goes through January. The GOP you imagine would nuke the filibuster now, when it's tied to "necessary government function", not over a completely partisan cause.

I think making any deal pushing the budget past November 2026 contingent on real concessions is a good rallying point for the "fight" minded. Do another CR that funds through August, then one that goes till a new Congress is sworn in.
Whether there's a vote or not, ending subsidies is going to piss off a lot of Republican voters. The repeated chaos (it's possible they wind up with another short term CR in January!) is going to work against the party in power.

This is why I can't join the Bluesky Anger Caucus over Democrats agreeing to pass the CR. As much as some of ya want to nuke the filibuster NOW, letting repubs do whatever they want by simple majority for the next year is a worse outcome right now.
This deal only funds government till Jan 30, 2026.

Republicans started executing hostages, what would holding out have done except get them all killed?
Even the most nuclear option, exploding the filibuster, would lead to potentially devastating outcomes like banning trans people.
We've still got another *year* before mid-terms!

Last Tuesday didn't erase the results from last November. If you want any chance of saving ACA subsidies, the guy whose mind you need to change is named Donald Trump.

Sincere question: what does victory look like?
Because maybe I'm missing something but I don't see any viable path to actually getting reconciliation subsidy shit reversed
The game was always raise salience, and an up/down vote w/dem language sounds like that to me

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

The blowback against repubs letting the ACA subsidies expire without a plan will be real. It's more helpful to focus on that than raging about the 8 Democrats who will probably retire before their next elections.
You don't have to blame any of this on Democrats. Literally none of this is the Democrats fault.

The problem with this agreement, even if Thune & Johnson honor it & an extension is passed, is that Trump is likely to veto unless someone changes his mind.
If the plan is making Republicans decide between constituents or Trump & daring Trump to veto if it passes, you should be clear.

Given Trump's absolute refusal to consider extending the ACA subsidies, this was always going to end without an extension deal. These are the Democrats who voted yes:

Durbin - 2026*
Fetterman - 2028
Hassan -2028
Kaine - 2030
King - 2030

I will not support this bill that completely fails to help Americans afford their health care.
Trump and R’s have more than doubled Americans’ health care premiums, and for 40 days they have refused to lift a finger to do a thing about it. In fact, they’ve made it worse by taking food from kids.

Dayen in disarray? Schumer let moderates strike a deal & this week make it clear Trump wants repubs to nuke the filibuster instead.
SCOOP: Schumer was more involved than reported with the attempted cave on the government shutdown. The Gang of 8 Senate Dems had his approval & he was getting daily updates.
In Thursday's caucus meeting, the Gang claimed they had 10 votes to cave. The caucus went nuts, leading to the new proposal.

Schumer is pretty good at his actual job of being the Leader of the Senate Democrats. His job is keeping both Bernie Sanders & Maggie Hassan on board. He's not Bluesky's Anger Translator, nor should anyone expect him to be.

I think identifying the person who did this and looking into their background might be useful. Likely they were either paid to do it or they have big skeletons in their closet.
someone went up to sarah mcbride in front of the u.s. congress, hurled her deadname at her loudly and called her a pedophile repeatedly, posted video of the exchange to x, and it is now going wildly viral
