Amir El-Masry has one of the great faces of current cinema but despite this I cannot recommend GIANT 📽️ (also out on Friday) which sidelines its own hero to focus on the coach movieswetextedabout.com/giant-film-r...
'Giant' Film Review - Prince Naseem Biopic Sidelines the Hero
Amir El-Masry is the lucky owner of one of the great faces in modern cinema, and he got to show it off not once but twice at this year’s London Film Festival. Unfortunately in neither case was it show...

HAMNET 📽️ is out in the UK/Ireland on Friday and I really liked how it handled the elephants in the room without overwhelming its purpose. Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley are enormous stars movieswetextedabout.com/hamnet-film-...
'Hamnet' Film Review: A Triumph Soaked in Sadness
The trouble with the concept of Hamnet is twofold. On the one hand, one of its central characters is one of the most famous artists who ever existed. His life has been mined for every possible scrap o...

WONDER WOMAN is on. The CGI has aged poorly but Saïd Taghmaoui is the greatest, Chris Pine is the best Chris and the no man's land sequence makes me cry every time

I have now read THE ROSE FIELD and while the ending is rushed (not something I'd expect to say about a 600ish page book) the whole thing is very satisfying, and not how I think anyone was expecting, which is more satisfying still

I just added it up and in the last three years I've reviewed about 425 movies, so that's about 425,000 words written about the modern cinema, and while this kind of career milestone is of no real interest to anyone but me I'm pretty proud of that (please hire me)

You are the solution to all your whining about posting on Bluesky and how no one is here. Just post good. I started out with zero followers and now I have more than I ever had on Twitter. By the way it’s not work! It’s just posting.

The Punitzer Prize
I'm afraid refering to a movie about a herd of sheep that investigates a murder a HERDER mystery deserves an Oscar, possibly a Pulitzer, for that and that alone

UNITED KINGDOM! @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social is showing The More The Merrier VERY early this Friday morning so either set your recorders or your alarms!!!
Let no-one tell you different: the greatest kissing scene and the most romantic is NOT Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman in Notorious, it’s matchless birthday girl Jean Arthur being wooed by her lodger Joel McCrea on the front stoop of her apartment in this blissful movie. youtu.be/orE5UkmYpsw

This is *still* going on by the way and it is incredible how little attention it's getting from media, politicians and others who are usually falling over themselves to talk about AI, women's rights and/or child protection
Two days later and the nonconsensual sexual material generator still hasn't been turned off, at this point it's time to start arresting people
If you want to see what the main use case for AI is to the average consumer, open Twitter, go to the @grok account and click on the "Media" tab
