Chicago. Parent. Fat. Bisexual. Bipolar II. Loud. Still masking. Kind of cute if you squint. Nerdy, but in a way that's fairly socially acceptable now. I have a kid, Nikole, who is she/they and a spouse, N, who is he/him.

If you post queerphobic bullshit like "Elonia Musk" or two male politicians kissing or whatever then I'm blocking you.

You don't need to make "ewww gaaayyy" jokes about these dipshits. You can simply point to the actual harm they are actively doing. You don't need to make gay jokes period, in fact.

My ex spent months in therapy talking about everything but the issues eroding our relationship. Our 1st session as a couple revealed how much he was actively concealing from the counselor. That’s why I keep saying, “Go to therapy and tell the whole truth.” And, yes, a lie by omission is still a lie.
Omg, can you imagine lying in therapy??? Like, you're impossible.
Why do you need to shape the narrative all the time? You must be exhausted w/ trying to manipulate other ppl's perception of you, terrified when someone can see through you. Is that why you go? To therapy?

We're watching "Long Story Short" and the first episode was incredibly emotionally stressful, like overwhelmingly so, but also very funny and every episode after that has been incredibly funny as well. And very very emotional.

What matters, in any case, is not the book you swear on; it's whether you actually mean it when you say you will defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic.

And whether you go on to live up to that oath.

I think we can politely disagree about how to acknowledge that linguistic evolution takes on overtones of classism and whether value-laden language like "cheapens" is appropriate. But I also think you would get a sensible chuckle out of the comic below.

I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this.

He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.

"The worship of Ishtar far predates it, and the site being excavated is of Hellenistic date (ca. 2,200 years old), so the pendant is evidence that the Mesopotamian deity had a wide cultural reach."
Silver Ishtar pendant found in Hellenistic city – The History Blog
A silver pendant decorated with an image and attributes of Assyrian goddess Ishtar has been discovered ancient city of Amos near Turunç, southwestern Turkey. Decorated with repoussé figures and hammered dots, the round medallion has a hanging loop at the top indicating it was worn on a necklace. It is missing a part of the lower left quadrant, but the lion’s fierce roaring face, body, hind legs and tail are all preserved. A female figure  wearing a tall headdress stands on the lion’s back. The star is behind her headdress.

Okay, #lawsky, need a referral for an attorney for a friend. Her father passed away, and apparently family relations are acrimonious so she wants her own lawyer to make sure the estate executor (her brother) is doing things appropriately. She's in Wake County NC. Feel free to comment or PM! Thanks!

The River has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar is an ASTOUNDING (and short) audiobook. The author and her sister sing together and it is so beautiful and poignant.
Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green is a wonderful, human book that he narrates so well.

Ahem, Sir, Mayor Mamdani, you exist in a different world now. Please consume the research on how your adornments of your wife protect her in *this* world.

I want to see her hands so heavy in gold to describe her accomplishments that she must notice and adjust to the weight she carries.

It matters.

Okay, might as well get this started.

It's January 1, which means, as I'm sure you all know, that there's a whole new bunch of characters who have entered the public domain. This time around, it's characters created in 1930.

The following is a list of pulp & pulpy characters now in the p.d.

Nobody thinks a guy doing the YMCA in a frog costume on a city sidewalk is a credible threat to public safety AND Oregon lawyers were able to leverage that perception to discredit the argument that Portland needed immediate federal intervention. Both tactics work in tandem to reinforce the other.
So, the frog stopped the National Guard from coming to Portland, along with astute lawsuits by Oregon. Only part of what's happening, but hard to understate how fundamentally the Portland Frog changed perceptions and helped morale. Humor, imagination, courage, savvy.
