Chicago. Parent. Fat. Bisexual. Bipolar II. Loud. Still masking. Kind of cute if you squint. Nerdy, but in a way that's fairly socially acceptable now. I have a kid, Nikole, who is she/they and a spouse, N, who is he/him.

If you post queerphobic bullshit like "Elonia Musk" or two male politicians kissing or whatever then I'm blocking you.

You don't need to make "ewww gaaayyy" jokes about these dipshits. You can simply point to the actual harm they are actively doing. You don't need to make gay jokes period, in fact.

The other constant is that they were treated well EXCEPT in Texas, there the railroadmen would all turn the heat up to max and lock the window shutters closed. (The railroadmen were all sons of recent German or Czech immigrants and REALLY hated the Nazis)
One of my favorite genres are memoirs of German POWs who were sent to America. To a man, they all realized they'd always been fucked when they saw how huge and rich our country was.
the nazis were utterly mystified at the trash our soldiers discarded dawg. total broke ass behavior

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

DOGE was created for data theft and infrastructure dismantling and it wildly succeeded on both counts within the first few weeks of its existence. It will take a generation to rebuild what it destroyed and the breach of data is unprecedented.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

We were at a gathering yesterday and someone asked a legal question about something my husband has dealt with.

Someone else jumped in, saying he was going to ask chat (gpt). Others agreed that was a good idea. Ten minutes later he had an answer... that my husband had to correct.

This is scratching an itch that's going to be a bigger thought -

about how the recurring failure of white American society is hearing about someone who's being marginalized, and meaning well and wanting to fix it... but thinking that changing a word is the beginning and end of the work.

And, for me personally, the insistance that all of this is totally secular, totally *unconnected* to the celebration of Jesus' birth, that only a grump wouldn't participate, is one of the most uncomfortable things about it.

It doesn't have to be ancient to be thoroughly Christian. And it doesn't have to be religious to be part of the celebration of a Christian holiday and alienating to non-Christians

Your yearly reminder that “holiday” celebrations that only include Christian traditions are not, in fact, inclusive even if you don’t use the word Christmas, so tbh I’d rather you just say it’s Christmas.
Until a few years ago, ugly holiday sweaters didn’t exist. They’re ugly Christmas sweaters, with some generic Jewish iconography to be “inclusive.” But the truth is, when I have to buy one to wear to a work party, I feel like I’m in another culture’s drag.

I know this is rhetorical but my stab at a real answer: because they are trying to get funding from VC people who are ideologues like Peter Thiel and Thiel doesn’t want us to have libraries
Why is startup culture always “I am inventing a coffeeproof phone you can put in your coffee cup to keep it warm with cell radiation” and never “I’m inventing a new library wholesaler to replace the single company that is shutting down and sending libraries into crisis”

Sometimes I just picture the good folks at cpsc staring blankly at social media, resting their heads gently, briefly, in their hands, and turning toward the social media communications team with notes.

Yes.

It's this shit again.

See if you can... if you can find a joke in it.

Again.
There is a post circulating on Bluesky encouraging the moving of a frozen turkey straight into a pot of hot oil. We are combating this misinformation the best way we know how - through the power of dance music.

During my tween/early-teen magic phase, I went to see a Penn and Teller show and chatted with them after. I asked their advice about being a magician.

Teller gave me a long, thoughtful answer about study and perseverance.

Penn said if I was interested in girls, quit magic and learn guitar.

I got to fly on a NASA/NOAA plane once that had old seats (cause it was an old plane), and the seats are bigger than the ones you get in Delta Comfort Plus.

An unspoken thing though is flights in the Golden Era of travel were way way way more expensive and slower.
What Flights Used to Cost in the 'Golden Age' of Air Travel
Explore how airfare costs from the golden age of travel compare to today's prices. Airfares are cheaper and more accessible now than ever before.

Ok. We're watching "Dexter: Original Sin" and the casting is GREAT.

They must have had a body language coach or something too.
