Portland should aim for a minimum 2% average annual growth rate. People already want to live in Portland, we just need to make it cheap and easy to build homes. 🏗️🏙️🌲🚲🦫

If ODOT was so busy expanding freeways, they could get back to their roots: blowing up whales
A whale carcass has washed ashore near Depoe Bay.

Wednesday is the 55th anniversary of the exploding whale.

@tinakotek.bsky.social has the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever.

Governor. Don't let the opportunity pass you by 🐋🧨💥

Not sure about all their offerings, but their longtail option just isn't close to competitive with Lectric.

The Xpedition 2.0 is $1k cheaper, and I know people who really like theirs. From what I've heard their customer support is also great.

Has your ballot been challenged? A significant number of ballots are in danger of not being counted. Don’t let your ballot be the one that tips the election to Harrell!

Make sure it’s counted here 👉 info.kingcounty.gov/kcelections/...

BPS says that rain runoff is a major constraint on doing Inner Eastside For All, but I'm pretty confident that having 10s of thousands of new sewer ratepayers and tons more property taxes could comfortably fund some rainways and some new pipes.
When it rains a lot I go to the St. George Rainway to watch water going in and out of things.

So, here’s a thread for those of you similarly enthralled…

Reno Nevada put their surface running rail line into a trench for $282 million.

For the cost of like 1/8th of a mile of I5 widening we could grade separate the line.

NEWS — The Oregon Department of Human Services has issued 100% of November SNAP benefits, per an alert on their website. I've received reports that the funds have already hit recipients' EBT accounts.

state legislators should be paid more. otherwise the legislatures are full of dilettantes, cranks, and nepobabies. this is why you keep hearing about the craziest fucking state laws
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

Portland is now allowing single stair apartment buildings up to 4 stories, per the 2025 building code... with a giant caveat www.portland.gov/ppd/commerci...
City building, fire officials establish guidelines for new single-stair apartment buildings
This allowance supports the development of new multifamily housing units on smaller lots while not compromising the safety of residents when evacuating a building during a fire.

We really need ODOT to take over the Mt Hood Express, and turn it into a one seat ride out of Portland.

Over twice the time to get to Govy by bus then by car is too much!

I for one think Oregon should aim to have electricity so cheap it makes no sense to meter it.

We could have had an entire Bonneville Dam worth of off shore wind coming onto our grid, but Tina Kotek killed that.
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

You're probably sick of hearing about dishwasher powder...

so let's talk about laundry detergent. I'm a lazy ass who can't be bothered to throw away old boxes sometimes but look what that laziness hath wrought.

just why exactly is one box good for 80 loads but the other does 89, hmm?
