Portland should aim for a minimum 2% average annual growth rate. People already want to live in Portland, we just need to make it cheap and easy to build homes. 🏗️🏙️🌲🚲🦫

Thread of the occasional big hauls I do by bicycle.

Tonight I bought a snowblower and pressure washer.
We are actually down to go in on a 4-plex in SE with some peers 😇
I would absolutely love to go in on a 4-plex with some friends.

I've been looking through old state transit reports recently, and was astounded at the fact that in 1976 Washington's intercity bus network carried 30 million passengers, half as many as every transit agency in the state at that time. Spokane had nearly 40 daily one way trips to different cities.

There are so many impossibly pessimistic “railfans” in groups titled like “Passenger Rail Enthusiasts” who are so intolerant of hope that anything can ever be improved that they might as well be called Passenger Rail Defeatists. Just enthusiastic about railroad past, I guess.🤷🏻‍♂️

Welcome new Bluesky users! You might be wondering what this thing is. It’s called the Omega Moth and we believe that at the end of days, when Earth is a lifeless cinder, the moth will wrap the planet in a cocoon so it can be reborn anew

Studded tires are incredible. I've biked on sheets of ice in Portland without any issue.

I got a new bike this year with different sized tires than the pair I have. If you wanna buy a pair of 24" studded tires, hit me up.

This is actually not that crazy. There are 10 existing 20+ mile rail tunnels in the world and 12 more currently being excavated.

To maintain a 4% grade from the McKenzie River valley up onto the plateau we would need a ~16 mile tunnel.

It'd be really expensive, but it is in our capacity to build.

by the by - if Oregon built high speed rail

If OR built mileage comparable to the Spanish AVE network of ~ 0.00005 miles per capita, that's roughly 215 miles of high-speed rail for a population of 4.3 million. That's enough trackage to connect Portland-Oregon City-Salem-Corvallis-Eugene-Bend (red)!

this is postmarked 3 aug 2019. Epstein died on 10 aug 2019.

sure is wild that right before he died epstein was like "YES LET ME PUT ALL THIS STUFF INCRIMINATING THE PRESIDENT IN WRITING AND SEND IT TO OTHER KNOWN PEDOPHILES". nothing suspicious about his death or anything to derive from that

WHERE’S OUR SALT AND STRAW HQ TOWER
*Portland 100 years ago*

Some ice cream businessman casually builds a 12 storey building still standing to this day in one year.

*Portland today*

Umm errr sooo uhhh we can't build anything because one of our best friends might lose some money while paying to construct it so we aren't building it

A n'hood assoc. colleague remarked that "getting more housing downtown will be impossible" as the downtown is "already very built up." I hold a different impression of my community, so I took to Google MyMaps to graphically illustrate just how much land in downtown on which there is left to build.
