I was recently laid off by ARTnews, a few days before the theft at the Louvre. The terms of my TN work visa means I can't freelance unless I donate the funds to charity. I'm open to new FT roles in business reporting and communications, and am willing to relocate to other cities, including Toronto.

'Raptor' also comes from 'rapere.'

We hope neither carries you off today.

NEW: Ontario Premier Doug Ford today suggested he would designate Highway 401 as a special economic zone as part of his push to build a tunnelled expressway under the route.

There was an old tweet that stuck with me: "If you can easily walk to the coffee shop but your barista has a one hour commute, you don't live in a walkable 15 minute city; you live in a theme park"
as someone who lives nextdoor to both supportive housing and public housing, i need people to understand that the best locations for both are going to be the central neighborhoods in a metropolitan area, where there is easy and reliable access to services and jobs.

one of the most admirable aspects of human culture, until comparatively recently, is the near universal civilisational compulsion to wear a silly hat after you accumulate any amount of power

fundementally this is where society started going wrong. why don't the powerful wear drip like this anymore

I do genuinely wonder how many people think what happened with Wikipedia is that “society accepted it” rather than that they put a ton of work into making it reliable, something that is not going to make AI reliable because no technology to actually understand meaning has been or can be invented.
Some of the anti-AI stuff feels a bit like when people would say "don't use Wikipedia as a source." It's just like anything else, a piece of information that you weigh against multiple sources and your own understanding of its likely failure modes

In the US, Trump is dismantling consumer protection measures, which proportionally target lower income families.

In Canada, the government is enhancing consumer protection measures to the benefit of lower income families.

I know which system makes more sense to me.

Plainly, people who want to reduce or eliminate DEIA efforts just want to make discrimination socially acceptable and legal again. They are in favor of segregation, unequal pay, unfair hiring, redlining, harassment of women and minorities, and fewer opportunities for people from marginalized groups.
