My theory is that the armchair historians are waiting for the Kristallnacht moment, the tipping point when everything that follows is an unstoppable runaway freight train that eventually runs out of track, and see "martial law" as that moment, which will be triggered by nationwide protests...

I’ve been thinking about this, too. Mostly in the context of trying to create graphics, zines, anything that’s easy to digest - to teach the parallels that people can’t see because we get such a sanitized and pared down version of history.

I also want to iterate that a declaration of martial law has nothing to do with the holding of elections. There is no provision in the Constitution for suspending elections in the case of martial law. The federal government does not hold elections; state governments do.
What is currently going on in Minneapolis is far past the 'what if he declares martial law' hypothetical for the practical impact it is having on people's lives. (And deaths.) They are going door-to-door, sometimes kicking those doors down, demanding papers on the street and shooting folks.

i got a new laptop and man I missed typing on a keyboard. It's registering my drawing tablet all annoying, but I think I need to just get used to it though (I always drew with my wacom in mouse mode instead of the surface area being mapped to the screen area. My hand/eye coordination is all fucked)

Had to put the AC on because it's basically IMPOSSIBLE to get air from outside to move through the apartment. It's at least 10° hotter inside than outside, and if I could get the air to actually circulate, I wouldn't need to use the aircon and I'm tired of spending money on this shit
