I have no idea what I'm doing with video, and it's getting very clear what I need to learn, but this project is a great chance to learn the ropes in the context of awesome, supportive, highly competent people. Looking forward to shooting again tomorrow.

Dreamt last night that I was trying to fix something, and I used a flat screwdriver to pry something, then got a letter from an attorney threatening to sue me over breaking the terms of use agreement for the tool.

I may need more sleep.

Anyone I know in Tokyo have a Helios 44-2 or similar lens I could borrow? Or just use during a photo walk or something.

Still curious about this lens, but don't feel like buying unless I know it works for me

Creative things afoot today. Thanks to a friend, finally shooting a short film. No idea what I'm doing, but am doing my best.

Been a long, frustrating day, and tomorrow is going to be a very challenging day, though for good reasons.

Let me leave you with this picture of my little maple tree and its lovely colors.

Hopefully, tomorrow can be a better day for all of us.

Made another camera video, this time on the Nikomat FT. Next one will probably be the Olympus OM-1.

It occurs to me that editing videos would be a lot easier if I didn't record them when I was dead tired. At least 75% of what I recorded the other day is getting cut out.

Me: "I'm uploading that video to TikTok"

Her: "...are you OK?"

A fair question to ask.

Back in the USA, I did a lot of jobs, and I worked with a lot of undocumented immigrants. Overall, they were the kindest, most skilled, hardest-working people I've ever worked with. They were my colleagues and neighbors. They were good people.
I can tell you right fucking now that the assholes in ice could not remotely compete with the honorable men and women they are deporting in the trades. They could not frame a house or build a roof or dig a drainage ditch. They are the useless eaters they accuse others of being, reprehensible asses

Usually, I just cook like it's jazz and freestyle my way along, but occasionally regret not writing things down.

Two days ago I made an absolutely killer marinade, and now I need to try to make it again, probably several times, so I can establish proportions.

Alex is why I can't find pumpernickel anywhere in Tokyo, and it's unforgivable. If he's also behind they lack of sourdough, I'm going to lose my shit.

Just learned about a lesser-known figure in the lore of King Arthur. Specifically, the knight who commissioned the round table.

JFC WalMart, I remember when there were controversies about bad words on CDs in the 90s, and now they're carrying literal Nazi shit.

Favorite moment of the day. Cold and rainy outside, reading with wife and cat inside. And our building is old and shitty, so living here always feels like camping once the weather cools off. I like camping. I like this.

Gonna make another, probably tomorrow. But which camera?

Nikomat FT? Olympus OM-1? Mamiya C22? Something else?

Japan people: any recommendations for an electric heating pad? Heat helps my knee, and in the past hot baths have been good, but I can't do hot baths for the foreseeable future.

If you want some new ideas for exploring Tokyo (or anywhere else, really), and would like a physical zine to help guide you, it's easy to print your own at the convenience store. Just buy the file, upload it to Netprint, then print at 7-11 with these settings.

One day in Shanghai when I had the flu, I was too slow on the uptake at the ATM and it ate my card. Kinda did my head in. Fortunately, a kind stranger nearby saw what had happened and told me how to get it back.
Machine: Leave debit card in.
Machine: Leave debit card in.
Machine: Leave debit card in.
Machine: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST REMOVE CARD NOW!

Yesterday and today, I spent time with new people exploring Tokyo and exchanging ideas and it was excellent. I want to get better at providing value in these contexts, because I want it to be worth it for others to invest in such experiences, but it's also a blast for me.
