A little update to this. A source emailed me to say they'd used an industry tool to look up Coral Hart's sales and they totaled only 37 copies for the books under that pen name.
So, yeah I do not believe the six figures on 50k sales the NYT reported.

The #1 rule about paying someone to teach you how to make money writing books is don't pay them if they won't even tell you what books they wrote that are making all the money.
To be very clear, that lady in the NYT article is not making any money with her hundreds of AI slop books.
She makes money by *convincing people* she makes money that way and getting them to pay her to teach them how to do it.
It's an evolved MLM, and the NYT is helping market it.

The point of the AI project is to provoke despair in creative people. They haven’t produced profits or anything anyone wants, just a steady stream of articles about how us artistic types can’t do the thing we’re already doing, making art. Jokes on them, we’re even better at despair than they are.

When you see unhoused people asking for money what you should see is a fracturing of the social contract where an issue (housing) that should be addressed on a municipal or statuary level is instead foisted on individuals in a way designed o put callouses on their souls

My in-laws had a v belated Christmas with my nephews (since they celebrated w/ their dad's side this year) and my MIL sent a picture of my nephew under the blanket I made him. 😭 He said it's the perfect size and he can tell I made it because it looks so good! brb crying FOREVER 😭😭😭
